I got offered to buy this 71 Sport Fury , it has been sitting for a while and has a very rusty back end. It has a lot of miles on it 198,000 . VIN : PH23L1D289311 I have been decoding the fender tag and I Can’t figure out what GF7 and VF5 mean , I could use some help with those. The car has a lot of rust so I’m leaning towards it being parted out. The 79 year old owner bought it new , he saw me at a show and shine and said he had a fury he would like to sell to someone that would appreciate it , so he invited me to his farm to look at it . He says it runs and was last ran last fall. Bad rust in back quarters and you can see though the sides of the trunk thanks for the fender tag help and I appreciate everyone’s opinion of this car if I should part it out or not . I will get more pictures later

GF7 is the exterior colorcode dark green metallic.
V5F means body side stripes in green

GF7 is there twice, meaning lower body color and roof color as I don't see a for vinyl roof.. So original no vinyl roof car

Rust aside, sure looks to be a LOT of parts there. Good score, I'd say.

I am going to buy it but I am going to have a good look under the car, that will tell me what it’s worth. It has a great back bumper and tail lens . The front looks to be in good shape as well . It still has the head light door motor in it ,something I haven’t seen in a long time. The hood looked good the trunk hood had rust starting at the back lip . The doors, hood and trunk open and close nicely. the owner said it just needs a battery and it will start right up. That has yet to be seen. The interior is in fare shape , I’ve seen worse. The back seat was removed to get the trunk open, he since found the keys. I’m not sure how long it has been parked in the grass behind his farm shop / garage but tall grass and trees are never good on a parked car.

I used to own a 1971 Sport Fury GT, and I only mention that because even though it had much less than 100K miles on it, the driver bucket seat looked like the one in that car, with torn threads in the pleats of the bottom cushion - otherwise, the interior looked much like that one. Did the older gentleman owner say the car had 198K miles on it or did you assume it had rolled over? I have a really hard time believing the car you are considering has more than 98K miles on on it. Now I realize the car has rust, but the interior is too nice for that many miles IMO.

Good luck with the purchase in any case!

Go for it. My Fury sat outside uncovered for 20 years and the only frame rust was a small hole in the front clip. That area was packed with mud and crap o rust was inevitable. The rear quarter rust is an easy job for a welder, no fancy panel bending required.

I've been a C body guy for 36 years. They never find me, I've always gotta go get them . This one found you, buy it damn it!

I’m just assuming it rolled over , I assume there all rolled over till proven otherwise

Buy it and get it off that mud and grass as fast as possible.

This car may have minimal rust but be prepared to find a lot more. I agree this car interior is too nice to have almost 200k.

Well, given that the engine should run and the condition of the interior, I personally would not assume the worst in terms of mileage on this particular one. There is a reason it found you. :D
