I use jack stands only to the height of their base. I never extend them up for fear of failure.
I always use blocks of wood. Large beam material in multiple sizes. Also dimensional lumber for the small raise in height or leveling things out.

I have a Bendpak 4 post lift. I also bought the hydraulic jacks that mount on the rails, so I can raise the wheels while the vehicle is elevated.
I also learned that Bendpak is located about 15 minutes from my sister’s place in SoKal...

I’ve got four HF 3 ton jack stands. These are gray like the 6 ton items shown in the OP pictures and different item numbers. Guess they’re not recalled. But, like you guys have mentioned also, I always use something as a fail safe. Floor jack, oak wood blocks or the tire I just took off the car. Those shock bolts require some heft on a wrench sometimes.

Back in the 80's when I worked for the jack up the Pickup truck 4x4 shop one of our customers that work at this well known to the trade tool supplier would come by with these <ahem> 'Back Door' sale items. One day they come by with these and wanted to know if I'd be interested in buying them on the cheap.

I wasn't interested in them but they left them at the shop (stashed) and we did use them once but the shop had several single post lifts with a 20 foot ceiling so we really had no use for them. On body lifts I had a long 6x6 that I'd use, simple, lift the truck, undo all the body mount bolts, stand 6x6 on end, lower truck onto 6x6 and remove body mount spacer, insert new taller mount rinse & repeat on all 4 corners. Done.

These Jack Stands showed up after they came by with one of these:

To which I told them "WTF am I going to use that on the Empire State Building?"

I guess they didn't get the message, I shud'da reported them to the police but since they were a good customer with their jacked up 4x4 I didn't want to upset the apple cart.
All this stuff was USA made way before China crap hit our shores.

I have 4 of the orange & white and 2 of the blue & silver. The orange & white have nothing on them except the capacity stamped in the steel near the bottom. The blue & silver have AC Delco logos on them. Otherwise they’re identical and they look exactly like the harbor freight stands. Probably made at the same Chinese place. I have 4 of the blocks too. Guess I’ll be using those instead.

Mine have passed a much more rigorous “Wiggle Test” than this guy just performed.
And I can’t just kick the lever to disengage it. The weight alone of the notched riser pretty much locks the pawl in the notch.
