Imperial to Newport axle compatibility

I have a 73 Newport with an 8.25 or 9.25 axle (it's not here for me to confirm at the moment, but it's definitely not an 8.75). I found someone with an 8.75 out of an Imperial for sale.
Other than the larger bolt pattern on the Imperial are these axles the same?
I can have new shafts bought or re drilled to change the bolt pattern, I just don't want to have to modify the housing, I'd prefer it was bolt in.

I think you are talking complete rearend.
Bolt pattern and pilot on imperial axle are larger.
While I approve of swapping in a 8 3/4, measure.
73 C body rear end is wider than 72. And isomount comes into play.
I still need a 74 or 75 9.25 axle.
