Intake manifold Question ?

When removing my intake manifold the other day I noticed some oil in the valley pan and some of the bolts seemed to brake loose a little easier than the others. I was wondering if any one out there could recommend a good torque setting for the intake bolts. The motor has aluminum heads and intake and I'm using ARP bolts. I don't want to over snug them and strip out any threads when putting it all back together.

Assuming it's a big block......45 ft/lbs.

Before torquing into aluminum, check with the manufacturer for their recommended specs. Aluminum is softer than cast iron and if the torque is in excess you'll stretch the female threads. This is easy to do with ARP bolts. Some aluminum parts of better quality have stainless or other metal inserts installed in the threaded section to prevent this. The composition of the gasket material recommended by the manufacturers of aluminum parts ensure a complete seal even at lower than OE specs.
Proceed with caution.

The threads need sealant on them as well, otherwise oil will slowly seep through and collect around the bolt heads and in the valley pan as witnessed.

Retorque the bolts after a warm-up and cool down cycle.

All I have to go by is a Chiltons manual and they recommend 45 ft lbs. but thats with cast iron heads and intake. I should probably give ARP a call and ask them. Dealing with tech support people really sucks!
