Maybe those Wal-Mart Supercentres are going to be converted in to prisons for those of us who aren't politically correct enough! :hiding:
Just kidding, but there is always a little bit of underlying concern that governments could go that route, turn against their own citizens. Some people believe that it's already begun. Some believe it could never happen. There is probably a bit of truth to some of the conspiracy theories that are floating around out there, but a lot of it needs to be taken with a grain of salt, IMO. For example, I do not believe that the US Government brought down the World Trade Center on September 11th. I do think we need to be watchful of government to a degree, of course. We would be foolish not to be.
It's not that uncommon to see training exercises done off the base around here, even in the city. CFB Shilo is located near Brandon. Convoys of trucks, jeeps and armoured personel carriers are quite a regular sight on the roads around here. It's also a common sight to see a large aircraft, a C-130 I think, flying over the area. Helicopters are also seen on a regular basis. The German army used to train at CFB Shilo back during the seventies, eighties and nineties too (GATES), but they don't come over anymore now. One day, a few years ago, there were two B-52s flying very low over the area. They were quite an impressive sight to see. I think they must have been involved in some type of joint US/Canada exercises. Usually, at night, there will be flares in the sky over the base. Then, of course, there will always be posts on one local forum about strange lights in the sky and UFOs. :laughing4:
I don't have any problem with them training off base. I don't think most other people do either, although I suppose you could probably find someone who does.
