Lack of notifications

And, oddly enough, today is the first time that the alert numbers count down when I look at threads.
Usually, for years now, when I click the alert button all the numbered alerts disappear as if I have looked at all of them.
Today, I click the alert button, click the thread I want to look at and the red alert que is still on the alert button with the number of alerts that I have not looked at yet.
I assume that is how it is supposed to work, which I really like. That makes the experience so much more enjoyable. Not sure why it changed today for the first time.

ok - I changed a few of your settings -- lets see if that makes it how you want it

My two cents:

Sometimes I get notifications about an obscure thread that I was involved in looooong ago. Kickdown adjustment or somesuch.

But I often don't get notifications of new pics in the wonderful "Some more classic pictures". I've learned to check my Watched list to see when it has new stuff.

And I'm getting alerts for this thread because I clicked on Watch earlier today.
