any suggestions for to make it stop leaking. it will be a lil while till i get around to getting it fixed properly having other priorities to fix on the car atm there is no noise coming from the differential yet.

just looking for a temp fix for right now

will be doing that this weekend...

what grade of oil is recommended?

yeah those peels worked like a charm i just rubbed it on there and no more leak

What rear end and casting number is it the 741 and 742 are as easy as adding oil. The 489 case and Salisbury type are a little more complicated.

Banana's work just don't be around when it comes time to open the diff to fix it the right way!

no idea on the casting number, the standard 8.75 axle

Don't forget the posi additive if conventional oil and posi rear end. Jack up the rear of the car, put blocks in front of front wheels so it does not roll away. With both rear tires in the air spin rearward and see if both are turning the same direction at the same time. If so you should have a posi rear end. The newer synthetic rear end fluid from Chrysler has the posi lube already in it.

it's not a sure grip.

i will be under my car tomorrow replacing all the rubber fuel lines, clamps, and speedometer pinon

The 741 & 742 set the bearing preload with shims, they are as simple as taking the nut off replacing the seal and retorquing the but to proper spec. The 489 case has a crush sleeve to set bearing preload which requires taking a turning torque reading by a beam type inch pound wrench = not cheap and or easy to find probably better to have someone do it if your not familiar / just keep adding oil and wiping off the bumper.

added the diff oil took the whole quart and still didn't spill over and it's still thirsty for more... i used the the stuff with the limited slip oil too, but i'm sure i'll be fine with that...
