I'm a left foot braker and would be interested in hearing from others on the topic.

Alan

As long as you keep your left foot off the brake and not resting, I believe race car drivers use both feet.

I used to drive with two feet, especially when I was driving for fun, on the streets and provoking a race. I did grow out of it but still do it on occasion when I need to

I've been a left foot braker since the day I could drive. You have two feet, why wouldn't you use them both? So much easier to control the vehicle with both feet.

The argument against it is that if you should ever have to drive a manual (I have no intention of ever doing so) then you might not avoid a collision since your left foot will slam the clutch to the floor thinking it's the brake.

I drive using both feet.... That is the left or the right foot brakes as needed. Never had any issue switching between stick cars and automatics. I've been doing this since I started driving back when there was dinosaurs crossing the road.

It came in real handy drag racing, not only at the line, but scrubbing a little excess speed off in the traps when I was bracket racing, keeping your accelerator down and a little brake with the left. In autocrossing (stick car) I used it because it was faster and smoother.

I do it sometimes, mainly if I want to leave a light quickly. My right foot's in position, ready to hit the gas, just lift my left foot and I'm gone. :)
My first car had a manual and so does my truck, so, when I'm driving an automatic, my left leg needs something to do. :laughing1:

Only when I'm at a red light and the 85 year old lady in her Town Car wants to get to 85 MPH in the first 60' only to settle back to 35 in front of me.

I'm with Nick on this one.

I've driven that way all my driving life. And I have jambed the clutch pedal to the floor thinking I was on the brake ..... **** happens. Just have to remember to keep your left foot on the floor wnen not breaking.

Back in the 70's when I was working at a Sunoco gas station, (remember gas station attendents ....?), There was a little old lady who had a huge two door Mercury. Her style of driving was to mash both gas and brake pedals and control speed by backing off the brake a little. One day she drove in the station with her cane still on the roof.
We put a lot of brakes on her car.

X2.....I'm with Stan on this one. LOL!

And then they watch you cussing them out in their rear view mirror!!!!

I Never used the left foot because I never owned a car with automatic transmission until now. First time I drove an automatic trans. car, I made an unwanted emergency stop on the left lane on the autobahn because I used both feet as usual. Not funny for the guy behind me...!

I'm guessing something Bavarian. Actually I think he even posted a pic of a BMW.

I'm driving a BMW 5 series F11 (company car) and sometimes my girlfriends Golf (rabbit) mk4 (my old car).

The BMW have auto. trans but I have it for only one year. The prevous model was a manual shifter...

I only drive with the right foot in autos, and obviously two feet in the manual cars we have. But I still only brake with the right. Unless I am out playing around and revving before a launch in the autos. Just the way I was taught as a youngster I suppose.

Is it still a drive around the block and parking for a US drivers license or has this changed recently ?

Definitaly right foot braker with nine stick shifts and one automatic car here.
