Old Man with a Hat
The thing is I feel I drive my Automatic the same as I drive my Manuals. With a manual you put the clutch in before you stop, I feel I do the same motions on my automatics. As I approach the stop I left foot the brake, once there I may put my right foot on the brake and switch back right before I continue. Driving with my left foot for the brake is second nature and have been doing it from day one (well maybe day two, once I got my license). I am a spirited driver, I love back roads and just about anything with some curves.
I have been in panic stops with both my automatics and my manuals without issues, with the manuals I will get both pedals down, and with an automatic, that same motion will get two feet on the pedal. So the confusion argument just doesn’t fly with me, honestly I do not know why it isn’t taught, I see more benefits than problems. I roll on residential street with cover on the brake, likewise in parking lots (not ridding the brake)
I’m currently dealing with a niece and nephew that are getting their driver licenses and my niece knows I’m a left foot braker. I told her to do as you’re told and pick your own style later. I have got criticisms over the years, some people just done understand (and these are people who drive both auto and manual cars).
Thanks for the input it is always interesting to hear what others have to say, it didn’t get as heated as bias ply tires but all good.
