Left Hand Studs

Remember, if you take your car to a repair shop, there are about three people between you and the person doing the work. Information does not always get relayed to THAT person, even if it's written on the repair order.

Tape a note or tag to the wheel so it has to be removed before they touch the lugs. Not saying that is 100%, but it brings the odds up.

If you still want to keep the left handed studs press one out to make sure mine will work. I remember there were 4 or 5 different styles that were offered when I switched.

Something to think about, I too was planning on keeping the Lf studs. When I went to replaced a couple of the broken studs, I changed my tune I decided I didn't want to do this again. It is not that big of a job if you have press, but to track down another stud later, is something completely different.

I am definitely one who likes to keep things original in appearance, but if I can improve or make something more convenient which is out of sight, I don't hesitate on the change.

I take all my Mopars to an old school mom and pops tire shop, where the graybeards behind the counter actually know what they're doing.
DITTO! I like to see one or two "old timers" futsing around out in the work area, they will usually more times than not know exactly what you mean when you mention the words "Chrysler left handed threads" to them. Others will look at you like you've just landed from Mars.

@70_NPORT: I'm fortunate to still have an exhaust guy like that as well. Leaves his two bay shop at 2:00PM sharp, but his craftsmanship is second to none and his charges reasonable. It will be a sad they when they're all gone.

@Zymurgy - Thanks so much for your generous offer. I pressed out the bad ones a couple of days ago. I will dig them out from the trash and send you pictures if that's OK.

The biggest problem with leaving a car with the wheels off is that I notice so many other little things I could take care of "while I'm already there". This brake job is gradually turning into a front end rebuild, LOL! Got to get the wheels back on before I go bust! :)

@Big_John In my darkest hour I was actually halfway considering engraving something along the lines of "righty loosey, lefty tighty" on the wheel itself! But that wouldn't work out well when you rotate...

. . .And for whomever answered "rock auto" ---- shame, shame, shame on you --- sometimes you NEED a real man,........ That's me........

I hafta admit - that was me. When I read the OP's question, my head was thinking "lug nuts" - not "studs." I got some Bendix left hand and right hand lug nuts from Rock Auto about a year ago, and fortunately I was able to continue to use the LH studs on my '66 300. Sorry for my confusion. . .

Yeh man, I hear ya....people like that are SERIOUSLY hard to come by these days... which is why I try to do all my own wrenching when or if I can. If I **** it up, I can blame myself and noone else haha. I've been in my fair share of muffler shops, I just couldnt do that in my own garage (nor had enough expertise, lol). MIDAS, MIENIKE, etc... most are just hacks waiting to punch out at 5pm. However... I did find a MIDAS shop where I used to live....turnes out the manager owned a very nice factory correct 73' 340 Cuda...even kept it parked in one of the open bays when possible. I couldn't believe my eyes OR my luck in running into that at a plain jain run of the mill Midas exhaust/muffler shop. So I felt a lot better at that one spot than lots of other places I've been in.

@70_NPORT There was a one man radiator shop around where I live with an honest to goodness Shelby 350 in the back. Not Mopar, but still a very, very cool one owner car. The shop is long gone, had to give way to progress in the form of a hipster bar. I hope the owner is still around, still has his health and gets to enjoy his car in his retirement.

@studs300 - don't mean to be a smartass, been doing exactly that for the past two days but the results that come back are for nuts even though the search term is for studs. Try it and see for yourself... The studs that do come up are either "no longer available" or "out of stock" when you inquire which is why I came here to ask. With all due respect, dude.

Howdy!
After restoring my '57 300C, my '64 Imperial Crown, a former 300F, and still maintaining my one-owner '68 300, let me tell you that I know how to research parts. There are NO left hand studs to be had.....nearly. I did locate ONE source but he wanted $8 per stud, wasn't sure if he had a full 5 studs , so I did what we all (should) do....converted to RH.... The LH studs are a PIA for anyone not familiar with these cars. I've known "mechanics" of late who questioned the L on my studs. This occurred during a wheel alignment which is why I NEVER leave any of these cars alone for services I cannot do myself. Most of the commercial sources that list parts of these cars on GOOGLE searches are simply plugging the car name/year into their search engine algorithms and then you come with generic stuff or a blank. The only source now is used....ever try to remove one of these from an old 50+ year old drum? And maintain the integrity of the stud? I cursed...I prayed...I promised to be a good boy.....In the end I bought new studs, RH, for the '57 300C and we're good to go...been two years, no issues and I'm running wire wheels. The Imperial still has the LH studs as does the '68 300 but I replaced the readily available LH nuts on both of the cars. Years of use deemed that a good idea and they're not pricey. So the '57 has RH studs....it's a pleasure to remove a tire. If you do go the RH replacement route be sure your new lugs match correctly. There are many variations to these puppies.

Sometimes I think I was crazy for restoring the 300C and F, and Imperial because of the huge $$ investment and ultimately while it's true, I KNOW what I have in terms of workmanship and reliability, next time, if there is one, I'll buy a "done" car....and hope. Or in another life, I'm coming back as a SCHWINN!

Any way, these parts searches are a good part of the battle. Forget the LH studs unless you have a machinist friend....

Just my opinion but I've been through this....UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Luck...this is a great site....enjoy it! bob

Whatever it takes, right? LOL!!!! I couldn't agree more!

So maybe I should bite the bullet and go RH? Problem for me personally is that it really goes against my grain, it's a character flaw: Sadly I'm stubborn to the point of stupidity, and if I really wanted the easy way that bad I would just get a Camaro or a Mustang, LOL! Or a Camry or anything else with a warranty. OK, maybe not. Maybe I'll just go RH. We'll see.

My time with L or R studz revolves around the '61 300 Batwagon when I did the disc brake conversion and went with the righties. I chose '81 Imperial 5X100X15 "Snow Flakes" just 'cuz I liked 'um and they were the rite diameter. But when I went to mount them on the '77 C-Body rotorz those cute little clear plastic Pentastars center caps WOULD NOT MOUNT, 'CUZ The center of the rotorz came too deep into the wheels to let it happen. SOOO? I HAD TWO 1/2" INCH WHEEL SPACERS MACHINED OUT OF 1/2" ALUMINUM FLAT STOCK 'CUZ EVERYTHING IN 1/2" SPACERS I FOUND OUT THERE WAZ ABSOLUTE JUNK. Then ten 3" long lugz from Summit were appropriated WHICH ALL 10 THEN HAD TO BE CUT DOWN 'CUZ MY CHROME ACORNZ WOULDN'T BOTTOM OUT TO MOUNT THE WHEELZ. HOPE I HAVE AH FEW OF YOU GUYZ LAUGHIN' NOW? DID THE DEPTH MEASURING WITH TWO OPEN LUGZ TO SET THE WHEEL THEN MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE, THE DEPTH OF THE ACORNZ, + THE THICKNESS OF THE OPEN LUGZ ADD TOGETHER AND THEN SUBTRACT FROM THE TIP OF THE 3" LUGZ. THEN ONE AT AH TIME LOCKED EACH LUG INTO MY BENCH VICE, RAN THE CORRECT DIE DOWN ON THE LUGZ BELOW THE MEASURED CUT OFF POINT AND CUT EACH LUG DOWN THE CORRECT AMOUNT WITH MY CUT OFF WHEEL, DRESSED UP THE TIP OF THE LUG BOLT AND THEN WALKED The DIE BACK OFF TO MAKE SURE NO BURRS REMAINED. Yeah I'm weird and still no paragraphs but damn I'm havin' fun, HAPPY FRIDAY Y'ALL. Jer

GM AND FORD guys have NO idea how we obsess!!!
IMy 300C and Imp are very well done cars, AACA Senior Grand awards, blah, blah.....these cars are really nice but there comes a time when you gotta be real. The studs are an issue. Unless you can "acquire" them as offered above, just give in to the insanity of breaking authenticity....you'll be ok...take a breath........and do it. My 300C with its 392 2x4 hemi was a total PIA on hot starts...and on cold starts it wasn't real happy. Carb rebuilds, dual point tuneups, etc....know what makes this hemi happy? MSD ignition module and a 45K volt coil. An electric fuel pump for priming and I/m good -to go. The MSD box is hidden under the battery tray, the coil is black, the e-pump is at the tank and the switch is in the glove box. The car was so bad that a simple stop at the gas pump required leaving it running. These things are famous for vapor lock and a general not-to-friendly attitude. Conversely, at 100mph they're fabulous!!!! Anyway, while I broke the "maintain factory correct rule" I can now drive the C with the full confidence knowing it WILL start....and NO MORE DUAL POINT distributor located at the firewall behind the rear carb. The best part is unless I reveal the mods, no one knows. I also dumped the Holley 4160 on my '68 300 and installed an Edlebrock 750, MUCH BETTER! And on the "64 Imperial I dumped the Carter and installed the same piece. All is right in my Mopar world! Mostly...... because if the '64 Imp needs brake drums there are NO repops and the only source is used....so I called Murray and once again, he came through. That's why sites and folks found here are the best! And with the 300 letter cars, without those two 300 Clubs, we owners are S.O.L.....
You're gonna be ok.....really.....RH threads, you'll love them and NO ONE WILL TELL!

Great! well done!

@BIGBARNEYCARS - Love that story! So the moral of the story is I shouldn't get acorn nuts? LOL! :)

@300C - I'm almost about to join the RH camp. After all my car will always be a driver and not perfect, and I doubt the guy at the tire shop is an AACA Judge.

Google is your friend. Just for grins I googled "left thread lug studs" and got multipal responses. Know what size you need before looking.

Here we go again! HA!

Let's face it, as time goes by, parts get harder and harder to find. And now with swapping parts and upgrading, the demand and supply for stock LH parts dwindles with each year. As said, you have to go used, or upgrade. When I did my disc swap, I just said screw it, go all RH on the 300 instead of trying to find or do a swap out. I did pound them out and have them hidden somewhere?
