Lets Play A Game: Last Of The Convertibles

Thanks to @mdh157 we have records for CM27T0C229842 -- an EB7 300 'vert with M6B3 / C16 blue console interior and V3W white top that is currently for sale in Narberth, PA. No fender tag (so we don't know the SBD), but we have the window sticker (showing the road wheels are original, among other things) and the title (which shows the current owner as having had the car for 15 years):

This Saturday, I submit CM27T0C225467 for review.

No tag, but at least now we have the VIN for this 300 'vert. Looks like BL1 beige with E6T5 tan buckets and console.

The car was part of the "Old Car Heaven" collection in Birmingham, AL. The museum went bankrupt and the collection was ordered sold on Dec. 2nd, 2017. Tom Mack Auctions carried out the job, which was reported on FCBO by @FURYGT . This 300 got its own thread, started by @CosMopar (a member from Sweden). Unfortunately, the VIN was not included, and no photo of a tag was uploaded by the auction house.

Luckily, the bankruptcy records did list the VIN, which I found after a bit of looking :) . If someone has info about the car's current whereabouts, or a photo of the tag, that'd be great!

PS: The same PDF bankruptcy records file contains the VIN of an FP6 1970 Chrysler sedan with matching teal cloth-and-vinyl interior that had only 569 miles on the clock, and that was part of the auctioned collection ( CH41T0C189199 ), as well as a 1966 maroon Imperial convertible ( YM27J63127239 ) that @detmatt may like.

CM27U0C200770 -- a green (or citron gold?) U-code 300 'vert that sold sometime after 2015. The seller (second owner at the time) said he had included a pic of the build sheet in the ad, but the online remnants have 13 small pics dating back to 2005 -- and none of the tag or the sheet:

Hopefully someone saved those pics and can post them here.

Turns out that @fury fan did, and he kindly sent them to me today!

Thanks to his records, we have the fender tag for this U-code FY6 300 'vert. Very few options, but good ones in my book (P25 and P31 power toys, B41 front disc brakes, L31 fender signal repeaters). SBD was March 2, 1970.

Here is the tag of DL27G0D134170 -- a 1970 Polara 'vert that, AFAIK, was bought by @FURYGT as a wreck and later went to a friend of his for parts. Small world: the friend is the same person who built the Monlara (the '70 'vert that @JPMODL owned for many years and that he recently sold; he also was the owner, from 1999 to 2003, of Buttercup -- my 1972 NYB).

Since we are talking about 1970 Polara 'verts, here is the Molara (aka DL27L0D113633 ) and a few links and photos to the car over the years. The story of how it became the Molara is told in a 2002 Hot Rod Magazine here that I have previously referenced in another thread. Here is how the car appeared back in 1998:

@polara71 posted the details of the tag back in 2012, along a ton of photos:

V3W white top
A01 light package
B41 heavy duty disc brakes
C21 center arm rest
C55 bucket seats
G11 tinted glass
G31 right hand outside mirror
H51 single air
L31 fender mounted turn signals
L35 cornering lights
M25 wide sill moldings
M31 belt and hood mouldings
M85 bumper guards
P31 power windows
R35 am/fm multiplex
V01 monotone paint
V5X black body side moldings

ER6 L6X9 TX9 903 005376

As we know, the original 383-2 was replaced with a 440 by Rich S., back in the 1990's. @JPMODL sold the car earlier this year, and she is now based in the Southern part of the USA.

I don't know how you remember these things. That was a long time ago. That car fought me hard to get it onto my trailer.

As we know, the original 383-2 was replaced with a 440 by Rich S., back in the 1990's. @JPMODL sold the car earlier this year, and she is now based in the Southern part of the USA.

Rich had converted the car to a console shift car but the gent that he sold it to removed the console and put it back to a column shift car. This was before JPMODL bought the car. That car had a lot of NOS parts on it, some of which I sold to Rich after I sold the '70 triple black Polara convertible nearly 30 years ago.

wonder if he converted it back to a Polara as well............

Here is an interesting letter I came across today. It states that there were only 903 convertibles sent to dealers for the 1970 model year.

Interesting document, thank you for posting it.

I thought that the figure was 1,077 1970 Chrysler 300 'verts produced. I wonder if the difference with "903 convertibles sent to dealers for the 1970 model year" consists of export models to Canada (C VON), cars "sold to dealers" vs. other modes of selling the cars, or something else?

@kmccabe56 @69CoronetRT @marko may have thoughts and/or info?

That would be my assumption, the White Book shows the 1077 as T "Total" not S "Domestic" or C "Canada"

he obviously worked at chrysler, wonder which set of books he got the number from - the official record or the real numbers from the accounting department ?

Thanks to @70 Sport Suburban we have another Fury iii 'vert. PM27G0D160750 is currently for sale near Sandy Springs in GA. BL1 sandalwood beige with M4F8 dark green bench interior. SBD was Nov. 17, 1969.

According to Govier, 1077 300 ragtops, and 1124 Newport ragtops. Let's not forget to mention the Newpies; they do exist after all.
