I would like to educate myself on engine rebuilding. It is nothing I am planning to do any time soon, but I would just like to understand the full process. This is one area I have zero experience in.

Is there a good reference type book that goes into deep detailed of the process. I am looking for a book that goes into a rebuild for good drivable engine, but would also like to know what upgrades can be made without sacrificing that drivability.

Mike,

I just bought an excellent book on rebuilding Chrysler big blocks. I got it at Jegs. I'll get the name for you or you can swing by Jegs cuz it's the only one they sell.

Thanks Big John and the second book looks exactly what I was looking for as a beginner and general overview, and then the first seems quite logical.

How to Build BB Mopar Engines is my bible.
I have every book published and all the rest didn't really teach me anything new.

I agree with Stan. I've got the how to rebuild BB mopar book by Don Taylor for the 440 I'm going through. I've never rebuilt an engine before, and this book seems to highlight everything. Not much performance stuff, but a good rebuild book.

This IS the only book you need, it has a Ma Mopar part #, has 650 pages of info and covers all of the engines since the 426 has been in production up to 1989, when this book was published.

All good choices and great reading material in the office.

Yep, X3. That's the one they sell at Jegs & it is excellent. When it comes to assembly, the book changes to a checklist format so you can't screw anything up.

I figured it was and you got a nice deal on that one. I might have gotten mine in '89, it sold for $20 then.

Zymurgy, Do your home work and figure out what you want your 383 to be. Then if I could recommend Muscle Motors up in Lansing, Mi. to do the machining or how ever far you'd want them to take it, Eric the owner is your guy. FYI, I can do Washington C H from Ann Arbor by cutting back thru' Dayton in 4 hours so that'll give you an idea from where you are! He built the 440 in the Batwagon and I know several guys that pretty much live at Milan Dragway that swear buy him too, Jer

The Mopar Perf books are great to have, and should be in everyone's library, but for beginner "how to" books, I think the others listed are better.

Thanks for the great book ideas. I have ordered one of each. I was able to find another one that Matt recommended, so Stan's off the hook for stealing Matt's book idea to me.:poke:
