Monaca Pennsylvania

That's about a half hour from me, I'm very familiar with the town. Maybe you're looking at a car I posted a while back, a '69 Newport convert?
1969 Chrysler Newport - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle...

I see they posted some new pics of the quarters which appear quite rotten. Other issues are likely present.
Hey, thanks for your response. You're right, that's the car in question. The problem is that I live in the Netherlands (Europe). I have been in contact with the owner, but when I told him that I am from the Netherlands, he stopped talking to me. From what I read in the ad it is an original car, with original paint, with rust on the rear passenger quarter. I would actually like someone to look for me and take pictures. And if I really like it, someone will buy it for me. For a fee, of course. Hopefully you understand what I mean. And I've bought cars in The Usa before, so I know how it works

I can take a look at it if you're really interested. Have to say that guy sounds like a jackass when he says he doesn't want to answer a lot of questions.

Pennsylvania is a rust belt state & they've heavily used salt in the winter for at least the last 75 years. Old cars that survive & are from this area have to be put away religiously every winter. I don't believe this car was one of those.

From what I see in the 2 pics of the quarter it had a crappy bondo repair that came through badly. The seam over the wheel opening was smoothed over. I would expect the other quarter to be similarly full of bondo. The inner quarters & trunk are probably a mess too.

Thanks for your reply. This is what he told me.

What are your expectations for the car? A decent 20-footer (6m in your case) that runs OK? Personally I covet nice original sheet metal but others don't care.

What I see in crappy pics is a right quarter that was shoddily repaired perhaps 20 years ago that is now coming apart. I also see a dent in the lower rocker area. None of the original wheel opening lip is left & the body seam line below the moulding is gone. The seam line would be very difficult to recreate without welding in a panel from a donor car. Finding rust free 50+ year old sheetmetal is hard to find even in desert junkyards now. It would be very unusual for a car to have one very bad panel & be solid everywhere else.

Maybe you're right, and it's already an old repair. And maybe I'm looking a little too much through rose-colored glasses, and he's really bad. It is difficult to judge from photos, you have to see something like this in real life and be able to judge it properly. It looks good except for the quarters, the interior also seems good. .
