I'm not sure where this photo was taken, it's an old one. But it perfectly demonstrates the fact that the guard railing, (now safer barrier in NASCAR), is always at a 90 degree angle to the track surface where they meet. When traveling around the banks at speed, especially on tracks like Talladega, 36 degrees and Bristol, 34 degrees, The illusion is that the surface is flat. The giveaway is things like light poles and mflagpoles jutting up from beyond the fence at weird angels That would be Monza Italy home of the Italian GP. In photo post 1055 you can see the road course viewing stands in the background. The banked oval was used in 1955 1956 1960 1961 Italian GP. Indy cars ran there in 1957 & 1958. The last time it was used was in the filming of the movie Grand Prix in 1966.
