Look what showed up on my doorstep today, the proverbial "keys to the kingdom"! Looks like I'll have some quality reading material for my vacation! :reading:

A must have!

Yeah, it's pretty cool. It's an original copy, and appears to be from a dealership somewhere. I know it has that smell to it, a few coffee stains, and is chock full of greasy fingerprints! Kinda neat to think how many hands have been all over it through the years, and how many cars this thing has helped move on down the road. Hmm, I wonder how many curse words this thing has inspired over time? :rant5:

Mine was a new reprint in the early 90's. Yours looks original and has plenty of patina. A great find.

I've read mine twice cover to cover.

A must have if you're doing repairs by yourself. But even these publications seem not to be tested out in every aspect when they were written. Had an instance for a GM brand where they claimed for example a bushing for the column shift could simply be "pressed in" with a pair of pliers and this was impossible, first thought it's because of the repro material, until an old mechanic who worked on these models told me this never even worked in the old days.
Rare exceptions though.

Very handy! I have the original version of the 1967 imperial manual myself. Have one for my 65 polara as well. It's amazing that pretty much every last bolt, nut, trim clip, etc is in there.

My parts manual has a permanent research spot on the kitchen table....

Ha! If only these old manuals could talk....kinda like wanting to hear what old cars would say if they could talk as well. My manuals are stained with grease, blood, beer.......blood stains in the front suspension section,.....who would have thought. LOL

Yep, a good example is when I was trying to figure out if a steering wheel from a 1977 Charger would work in my 1978 NYB with a T&T column. The parts book says C-body only for the steering wheels for the T&T column cars. They probably just grabbed the steering wheels off the shelf and just compared them side by side and said that won't work...... I had to machine the back side of the Charger wheel on a lathe to get it to work on the NYB with the T&T column. No problem.

The Hollanders wouldn't of helped.....I had to mod the steering wheel to make it work on the T&T column.

I know, but you lost me here .............................................................................. so the parts book said it wouldnt work? O.K ... It didnt without mods, they were correct.

The question at the time.... was the spline and the diameter on the steering shaft the same for both steering wheels and if the slot for the T&T locking lever was there and in the right position, etc. Some people on this forum said... no way.... and some said maybe.....no one knew for sure. The parts book didn't say why it wouldn't work. I took a chance and went and got the steering wheel off the 77 Charger. The splines were the same, it had the cutout for the slot in the correct place even though the Charger didn't have the T&T column. The spline did match up and I had to machine the back side of the steering wheel so it would work the NYB T&T column and locking lever. That's why I said I was frustrated with the parts book and Hollander's wouldn't of been any help in determination if the steering wheel would fit/work with mods. The steering wheel would of worked on a NYB without a T&T column. The parts books doesn't say that.....if it did I would of known that the splines were the same.
