Mystery knob

Anyone want to guess what this thing is? The knob is under the dash, and it's attached to a cable in a translucent plastic sheath (arrows).

And no, I haven't tried turning it. After all, it might activate the ejector seat. (Though I bet that option wasn't available with the bench seat. Must be something else.)

My best guess is it is the trip odometer reset.

Does the car have a passenger side mirror? I know the formals have the same type setup to adjust the passenger side door mirror if equipped

The car doesn't have a trip odometer or a right-side mirror. (It's a 1967 Monaco, sorry should've mentioned that originally.)

It looks like it only rotates--it's not a push-able joystick.

It would pretty awesome if the car had a secret NOS system. Who knows, maybe it's hiding somewhere in that stadium-size trunk!

Does it have a manual choke cable to the carb? Try to pull it out a little or pushes in.

I like the theory about the manual choke cable.... if I have time, I'll check it out tomorrow.

Well.... If all else fails..... You could check the operators manual....

If it is a manual choke cable it can affect the driveability and gas milege if it isn't mounted/adjusted properly and closed all the way. Rough idle after the engine warms up, etc,.

Have you traced the path of the cable under the dash to see where it goes?

I'd think a choke cable would have a different type of kob, that ones too small to be tugged on.

Listen to this guy... If it doesn't have a trip odometer, possibly the speedometer was changed.

My '67 & '68 Chryslers have the same rotating knob, but on the left side of the steering column.

Check your operators manual.

I can only see the first four inches or so of it. Then my view is blocked by the various structural pieces. I haven't tried disassembling anything yet, of course.
