N8-96XJ's '65 Fury III build

Wow, thanks all. detmatt you are exactly right, i guess i am overwhelming myself! One thing at a time... commando1, i really like that car. Nice stance, straightforward, clean and simple. I've been all over the net looking at Fury pictures and have'nt seen one yet with those wheels. I thought it might look good, now i know. Thanks a ton guys!!!

So, just to update some progress. Been busy lately. I drove my car for the first time a couple weekends ago! My bud drove it when i first got it for about a quarter mile... Everything seems to be in good working order so far. Shifts good, stops good ( have'nt upgraded to the dual master cylinder yet. Definitely on the list tho. ) The engine runs and idles and accelerates very, very nicely. Not sure what the car is geared, seems to be pretty high. Should do nicely for a highway cruiser. I've had a permanent grin since that day. Now i can really feel the appeal of these cars. Nothing built today feels that nice. Still got a long way to go before it's a daily or weekly driver tho... But i gotta say i'm in love all over again!
My other news is that i've decided on and purchased my paint. It will probably be spring time before i get around to painting the car tho. We've run out of good weather i think. Still a bit of work to do to get the rear quarters done. But here is a bit of a teaser pic. We sprayed a fender skirt to get an idea of the paint in the sunlight. Not wetsanded or buffed yet... Just sprayed and cleared to see what i looks like. I like it alot. I'm gonna worry about figuring out the wheels later on.

And, for the sake of documenting progress, here is what is going on with the body work... Not proud of these pics ha ha! The only thing left to pull off the car are the door handles. Putting that off til the last minute. We misted/tiger striped some red primer over the entire car. It allows me to see the low spots/ pings and dings in the white paint while sanding. Then i started hand block sanding her down. Got the top, hood, and trunklid sanded. Starting to work further and futher down.Don't think i'll ever become a full time body man. It's alot of work! Once i get a panel done we're shooting a urethane primer over it. Then repeat the process... Slowly starting to shape the rear quarters as well. Slow, slow going...

Thanks! And yeah i had alredy painted the engine bay before i stuck the engine back in. That was during the pearl white experiment... Glad i decided against it. I'll cover the engine and wiring and redo it all again in the new red. I'll be sure to paint the radiator support flat black. Wish i could have found a dual snorkel air cleaner like that one... I felt lucky to find a single style for free.

Tire size suggestions!

Hey y'all. I decided on and ordered a set of wheels! Since the weather is'nt co-operating i have been surfin the web and lookin at wheels. Another step forward! I think these will look good on the car with the paint i've chosen. I ordered 15x7s for the front and 15x8s for the rear.
New wheels:

The stance i want:

Hate to say it, ha ha!! but i do realize i may have to lower the rear a little! What size tires do y'all think i would need to get there? I like the wider rear tires...

Thanks! I think they are a nice compromise. I'm not trying to go "over the top" with the car, but i still like the late 60s and 70s "muscle car" style. I know it's a C-body and meant to be "classy" and all that... but i tend to see it as having a mean streak as well! Had i bought a '64 Fury i may not be as torn as i am about what to do with it...

I think the biggest 15" 70 or 75 series profile tire that will properly fit on a 7 or even 8" rim will give the baddest look and still fit properly.

Thanks Stan!

You're welcome. You hear a ton of what you can do's but 90% of it is from doing things that engineering wise, is just plain wrong. If I read one more post about modern Chrysler 300 rims fitting C-bodies, I will scream. All these yahoos don't know a bloody thing about steering and suspension geometry. Just cuz it "fits" doesn't mean it works.

Ha ha! A set of 18" SRT-8 wheels briefly crossed my mind! I just did'nt want to have to use rubber bands for tires! Figured i'd stick with a 15" '60s style wheel and some tires that hold air. Too comfortable of a ride to ruin! :eek:ccasion14:

SRT wheels can be "jammed" on, but they do not fit properly. If I said this same thing over on Moparts, a hundred replies would say "I gots dems on my Grand Fury Sports 3 and dey fits fine". No they don't.
