Hey everyone
I just bought a 68 Fury III. It doesn't need much work really. Runs and drives. Needs some electrical work for sure but that's easy (maybe) and some good old fashioned TLC.
So far finding parts has not been very cut and dry.

It seems more like Mercedes where the model of the car you have doesn't mean anything but it's all based on the chassis? Is there some good places you guys can recommend for parts?
Mostly so far need dumb stuff like seat release knobs, window cranks etc. It will need a dash light dimmer and other electrical stuff. I prefer used original to aftermarket if possible. I know that it's unavoidable in some cases.

I have a thousand questions about what's correct and not, and what's supposed to be here or there that isn't.
Thanks for any info. Look forward to my new adventure. Oh and I live in Texas.

She looks great, very clean, and solid. You should do the ampmeter bypass. It's simple and takes all of 10 or 15 minutes. Some of the little bits cross body styles to the more popular "muscle" cars so you can find some repops when necessary. You'll have to buy a used or rebuilt switch.

Welcome! Very nice, solid looking '68 formal roof Fury III you have there. You have found the right place for "like minded" people with a vast knowledge of repair and parts locating experience. Your Fury still looks to be pretty much in original condition. The window crank handles were used for many years on Chrysler, Plymouth & Dodge. There are rebuilt dash dimmer switches available as they were also used for a few years throughout the Mopar line. Keep us posted on any progress and have fun.

:welcome: Very nice Plymouth, great colors. You have come to the right place for parts and information. Just ask.
I wouldn't be to concerned about bypassing the amp gage, Not a good idea to fix something that's not broken.

Hello and Welcome from Connecticut! If you would like please check out my photo garage as there is a 68 Sport Fury Fast-top in there.:welcome:

Thanks everyone. Yes, it has a 383 with a 4 barrel. Factory A/C. The condenser is missing and who knows if the compressor works....not terribly concerned. I'll have to take the dash apart to fix the clock and radio and such. The ammeter works so I'll leave it be for now. The tail light harness has some burnt wires so....I'm super anal about wiring...are there harnesses available or am I making one? Either way is no problem. I've restored several cars (real restorations not lipstick on a pig) so I'm not scared to dive right in.

So the first non essential parts i am looking for are the seat knobs. See pics.....I found some little chrome square knobs for the seat backrest but since I dont have any I'm not sure they are right. Anyone got pics they can share so I can see what I'm even looking for?

I dont readily see how so send a PM so 68plymouth383 can you send me a message?
Thanks again, I'm pretty excited about this. As you can tell by the long winded post.

Congrats! I currently own 3 '68 Furys and have owned several over the years. I have been messing with these cars since the early '90's so I know what is correct and what isn't 90% of the time. I also have accumulated a lot of parts. Check eBay for the seat knobs and there is someone on this forum that rebuilds the dash dimmer switches. Feel free to reach out to me.

This is your seat adjuster knob:

I have an NOS one that I would ship to you for $20.00.

I believe that this is the correct seat back knob:

Get a Factory Service Manual first thing before turning a wrench. It’ll have the remove/install directions for that dash.
Those missing knobs are probably used on B bodies also. New re-pops should be available.
I see quite a few on ebay.

Welcome aboard! Your car looks great and I hope you have a long and happy experience with it! You are definitely in the right place for expert advice and recommendations on everything C Body.

:welcome:

you will do well to do the ammeter bypass FIRST. its a giant safety issue and your car can burn down.

Like, now first. and unhook the battery until you have that wiring straight you are asking to fry it all.

try not to die -

Thanks for the info on the ammeter and dash taking apart. I bought the shop manual and should be here next week. I also saw a specific "electrical" book. anyone have that one? I love wiring so it seemed like it has some great info...is it worth the price?

Your interior is just like mine. I have a wiring chart for the 68 Fury. I could try sending you a scan of it - if I can find it. :-D
