New Member - 71 Newport "barn find" clean car

Great story. And another member to be jealous of... Ok, maybe not jealous, maybe just covetous.

What a beauty ....... Red, white & chrome ....... my three favorite colors.
If you would post a picture of the data tag, (on the core support), we can do some decoding. The bucket seats were optional.

71 was the first yeaar for high back buckets in a C body. Those appear to be original. Buckets in a Newport is uncommon.

Sam: I LOVE this story of your "barn find." Welcome and let us know how it goes with the fix-up.

nice colour combo !
Great car
Enjoy it

Carsten

I must agree I love the color combo and what a great find. That doesn't happen every day and I hope this is a keeper for you.The car looks to be in great shape and with a good cleaning of the car and gas tank and lines you should be on the road enjoying that in no time flat!!

Thank you! I will post pics of the tag once i get the car back home. Its over a year since ive even seen it.

Thank you Polara71 - interesting i never thought of these as a bucket seat kinda car. Can't wait to share more.

chry73luv - it's definitely a Keeper ive never been one to buy and flip. I usually buy, spend everything i can. Then once its finished, park it next to a compelte pile, and spend all my time and money on said pile, isntead of driving the freshly restored project lol

I'm sure ill be lurking around here till July when i go get the car and start tinkering. Thank you all again

Not 100% sure what i want to do with it yet, but a tame restoration / cleanup and just put a whole bunch of miles on it. I like my old cars to be classic and simple, not much into the restomod side of things.

and yes, i did put "Barn Find" in quotation marks for a reason, as mentioned earlier, it might be the most overused term out there.

On a side note, first up on my list of things to do. Is send those freakin beaded seat covers straight to hell. lol

The term "barn find", weather it means a barn, shed, garage, basement or whatever ..... I think is a great way to define a car located after a long time in private storage. It conjers up visions and dreams and is usually a very happy moment. Everyone comes together, gathers around, pats you on the back and says " nice fine .... you lucky bastard".

But ....... when a barn find turns into an "easy restoration" ..... THAT is an overused term ...... and a damm lie.

OH..... I bet some rag head taxi driver would love to have that beaded seat.

those beaded seat dealys may have saved your seats....removed the worn dusty seat covers on my 70 to find pristine seats with out a rip, tear or wear throughout the whole interior...

My problem with the term Will is really because it is now used to try and make a car more attractive to a buyer. It is usually used by a hungry flipper. My convertible was in a garage for fifteen years. I never once used the term barn find to describe it........

You know what, after more thought yeah, I dont like the term unless the car was actually in a barn

I found this car when it was on Craigslist. It had sat untouched in his barn for over 20 years.
Was it a true "barn find"?. Hell no.
I found it on CL.

I found a nice car on CL.
It had been sitting in his barn.

I had to tell people it was a "barn find" when they asked because all I had to say was two words and I didn't have to talk about it anymore.

Im sure that everyone who read your story is extremely envious including myself. Great find. Good luck. Welcome to the site.

I can also confirm that the car will fit on a U-haul trailer. I towed my 1971 300 2dr (exact wheelbase as your car) from Tucson to Dallas last year. The a$$ hangs over a bit, but I doubt anyone will have trouble seeing your red C-body :tongueflap:

I told them I was hauling a 1992 Taurus station wagon. I was told that there were two lengths to the car carriers, so I wanted to make sure I had the longer one. Heck I even went to U-haul and measured the trailer and everything because I was paranoid. At the end of the day it worked out great. Those U-haul trailers are built to last, and the trailer brakes are a much-needed bonus.
