New Mini Starter

Yes, so I just put in a NEW Ultima starter on the Newport (70). It cranked awesome the first two try’s, third sounded like pinion didn’t engage all the way & every try since then is just starter spinning. Suggestions?

Follow up: took it out & back to O’Reilly’s for a test; passed.
I guess next I’ll use a mirror to see if there are broken teeth on starter plate thingy……whatever it’s called….

If the ring gear on the torque converter had a tooth missing, how'd that happen? Would that have caused an issue with the prior starter too?

Old one came out with the optional removable snout.

Looking at your pictures it appears that perhaps the new starter has a longer snout?
