New wagon in the family

Will you have a travel companion? Sounds like you will have another great road trip adventure and am jealous of you once again.

No...... Ill be on my own this trip. I'll probably make a side trip to North Carolina and visit friends.

After trying to deal with shipping brokers for a week, and hearing every sob story and reason why I should pay way to much for shipping, I have decided to go get the wagon myself.
I talked with the seller who told me the car has new tires, brakes, exhaust, and although he has never driven the car a long distance he felt confident the car was road worthy.
So........ I'm off on a new adventure. I've booked a flight to Providence RI Saturday where the seller will pick me up. It's an 1100 mile trip back home so I'll break it up to 2-3 easy days travel. I'm a AAA gold member, so no worries about being stuck on the road.
Now I'm looking forward to the trip, (except for the flying part). What better way to get familure with a new (old) car then a road trip.

The wagon has a name already....... based on size, color and the fact that the seller is in the Navy, I decided on "the Admiral".

Very appropriate name!

Good luck on your road trip.

Godspeed, Will.
Carry a few replacements parts with you and check the spare before your adventure home.
Oh. And your cell phone charger.

I know what you mean about the transporters Will. I want a wagon in Washington State but the cheapest shipping I could find was $1800. Just can't do that. I'll keep looking closer to home I guess. Anyway good luck on you trip and enjoy the adventure!

I completely understand your comment about the flying part, I feel more comfortable even in the worst Kind of drivable car; I usually take a Train myself whernever possible . Good luck. ,,,

Chris, there is something wrong.
Last year I had a car trailered from Portland/oregon (WA border) to LA for 650$

Sounds like a great travel, Will.
I wish you a lot of fun traveling and I am sure everything will workout fine

Right now it would probably be cheaper to ship south to north because of the snowbird migration south. There is a much higher demand in that direction now, but that will reverse in the spring.

I know Karsten I was expecting a lot less. Those are the quotes I got from U-ship. They went up to almost $3000. It's 1500 miles and I was hoping to find it for 1000- 1200. 75 cents a mile is the figure I was hoping for. Looks like the shippers aren't ready to pass the lower fuel costs on to the customer yet.

That's one of the excuses they kept throwing out, gotta pay more to go to the SE. That plus the type and size of the car may be scaring them off.

Nice score Will, congrats..cant wait to see it at carlisle. Hopefully mine will be road worthy by then.Have a safe trip and oh yea welcome to the FURY stationwagon family...John 00p0p_1OTSAZsZ4Xs_600x450.jpg

Good luck Will! Sounds like it will be a great time! Take plenty of pics lol. Looking forward to hearing how this turns out.

That is great news about doing the road trip...at least in my book. ;) You will have a great experience...regardless of things going perfect or not. Take lot sof pics, and share your adventure with us when you get back. :)

Well ....... The Admiral is in the driveway.

After flying out early Sunday morning, and a 1300 mile trip, including a side trip to North Carolina, I arrived home last night a 9:30 pm. The car ran great with no issues and averaged just over 20 mpg.
The seller was no mechanic, (which is scary concidering he is a machinist on nuclear submarines). The choke is non functioning and the carb took some readjusting to run ok. A tune up is in order. There are several other jury rigged issues but nothing that can't be easily corrected.

I'll have the rear seat lower cover replaced, a wiper motor, (they work but won't park). It will need a dash pad, a steering wheel and some serious detailing, plus paint. There's zero rust. All the trim is pretty nice & all good glass. I also need to locate an A/C compressor and the mounting brackets. Seller doesn't know what happened to the original.

I think that with a little effort I'll end up with a nice daily driver wagon.

I didn't shoot any trip pictures..... It was cold, cloudy, windy and mostly dark. My detour into NC proved to be worthwhile, aside from seeing some old friends, I'll talk about that later. And will shoot some pictures of the car in the next day or so.

A bonus is that, (being a thrifty C body guy), I saved 0ver $400.00 bucks from the transportation cost, and had a good adventure.

Glad everything worked out so well and I look forward to more details.
