I've got a nice shop with five old Mopars in it. Two Sweptline pickups, the Coronet 500, the NYBS and the Imperial rag. I've been thinking about selling the whole lot. I've had the Imperial for a year and drove it 20 miles. The Chrysler sits. The Coronet sat for almost three years before I got it back on the road, after replacing the gas tank, shocks, rear springs and more, so I've got about 300 miles on it this year. The pickups sit, too. I've owned the lowered truck for three years nad have a whopping 22 miles on it. It has sat untouched for a year, needing a timing set and front gaskets (I have the parts), while the stock '68 just isn't driven much at all - maybe 300 miles this year.

This used to be fun. Now it just seems like a damn chore, like mowing the yard. I have been tossing around selling the whole kit and caboodle, and just concentrate on ONE older car, if I even do that. All these guys that brag about having a dozen or more cars in their little "collections". I have a hard enough time keeping up with these, plus my daily drivers. The passion I once had for this is rapidly losing steam.

What are the alternatives? Boats? Hell, no, I hate boats. I owned a used one for a year, it never saw the water while I owned it, and so I sold it. Campers? Owned four motorhomes and one fifth wheel. Got that out of my system fast! My little 4x8 teardrop project has sat dormant for nearly a year. I don't do motorcycles. Hell, maybe a cool little off-road four-wheeler might do the trick, as I grew up in the mountains and really liked going four-wheeling with my Dad back in the day.

Just a little rant...not even a rant, just speaking.

Any of you in a similar circumstance?

Yeah, it happens. You need to take a break for awhile. I find that I need to store things for a bit, not look at them or think about them. I put my charger project on hold for nine months because I was sick of looking at it. I went and built a new bathroom in the den during that time instead. Now this year i am back into the charger and feeling positive again.

Yes.....but I only have three. I only wanted one but now my kids have all claimed one or the other so ridding myself of any doesn't seem possible. I think three is Max for anyone to enjoy and none of mine are projects.

You are not alone

I kind of have the same situation, getting tired of maintaining the chrysler and the dodge, I put about 300 miles on each in a season. It seems that I spend more time keeping up on the maintenance than driving them. So this yr one of them has to go :sad2:. Its nice to have them but it would be much easier to take care of just one, and getting to spend the time saved driving the one I keep.
I've done the boat thing, always having a boat for the last 30 yrs but that got old also, just sold it 2 yrs ago. As time goes by I guess you have to decide what you enjoy the most and stick with that, it's no fun gettin old

Once upon ah time I got up to 10 and I waz like the chicken with one eye in the middle of itz forehead and a pecker on each side of its face trying to pick up corn. kept missin' the corn and dam near starved to death. Point being: I waz spendin' all my free time And gobz of $ and wasn't accomplishing much on any of the 10. Then an amazing thing happened. From the depths of my little pea brain came the flash of ah life time that My A$$ would only fit one chair and my last name wasn't Leno. We come together for the carz but we stay for the friendz we make and we can't put ah price on that!

We are in that position with our Goldwing motorcycle at the moment. most years it would have been out on the road early April in our area but I just got it out of storage 2 evening ago now and have to work on it before getting it on the road. no fresh tags on it yet until it is ready & we decide to ride..
Could be a month from now.
Who knows...

We used to ride about 20,000 miles each year (9 years) which was a lot for 2 full time working parents but combined the last 2 years we have covered about 3000 miles.

It isn't worth much to sell but it's there and the Mrs' is getting really picky as to when we will ride plus we both have some health issues that keep us from riding too far at a time.
We used to go out for a few weeks at a time traveling many miles and have covered many of the eastern states as well exploring our home province of Ontario.

We have as BigBarneyCars has noted , made a lot of friends in the process!:yaayy:

All in all we have been blessed to be able to do this!

Now even though our Polara will not see the light of day this summer, it will eventually replace the bike and we will be able to comfortably drive the land yacht for hopefully many years.

Hopefully you can turn your thoughts around, or as you are feeling sell some off so you can enjoy 1 or 2 instead of just collecting yard or barn treasures.

I think you will find your feeling change with less on your plate!

BTW... if you sell the truck, I have a crisp $100 bill in my pocket and would be willing to give it a new home!! :sSig_wootwoot:

Mr fix it - Bring it and 59 more of them and the lowered truck can be yours! USD, of course, and not that $CDN money in those funny colors!

I'd love to but I only have 4 more at the moment and I need them for the Polara!!

Sell em. Stick with one that you really really like and drive the wheels off of it. If you're doing it for bragging rights you're doing it for the wrong reason. The guys with multiple cars and have the ability to keep them going have the money to pay people to do it for them. Or they have the time. Or both.

I'm new to the classic car sport and love every minute that I get to go cruising, it's therapy for me. However, I am quickly getting frustrated with the lack time I actually get to spend enjoying the car. My job requires me to travel extensively and winter severely limits the amount good weather available, which seems to be consumed with house-hold chores when I am home. The list of car to-do's keeps growing, there seems to be a new leak every day and my parts pile ever-growing. When I do get the car out after it's winter rest I want to drive it, not work on it! But, all these gripes are quickly erased after a long Sunday afternoon drive or when an older couple approaches me at a cruise night and starts talking about their first date in their old Chrysler, or better yet, when I see the smile on my 16 year old daughter's face when we go out driving together with no cell phones or Facebook....

I've never bought or sold cars for "bragging rights", it's because I like them, period. I just wish I had the control to get one finished, then move on to the next one. I have what I call "garage ADD", in that I'll be working on three or four of them at a time. Or, I'll be doing something on one, look over and think "Oh, I can get this done on this one today, too!" and in the end, finish neither job. Storage is not a problem for me at all - everything I own is under one roof. I have plenty of room to move around and actually work on something; versus some guys I know that have no room to actually function, whether they have a single-car attached garage or a 40' x 100' warehouse. Time and ability isn't an issue, either. Just the desire isn't there right now. That's it.

For example, I have a list of "to-do" things for each of the vehicles:

Lowered D100:
1) R/R waterpump, timing set, front gaskets
2) new wheels/tires
3) build bedcover
4) lace-paint the roof

Stock D100:
1) Dip the truck
2) Get the seat redone

Coronet:
1) Get the A/C working again
2) R/R tach sending unit
3) Fix speedometer (stuck on 75 mph!)
4) Fix radio
5) Re-wire rear speakers

NYBS:
1) R/R rt exhaust manifold
2) R/R trunk lock
3) Re-dye the replacement door interior panels and install
4) Check the A/C

Imperial:
1) Finish the damn brakes!
2) R/R heater core
3) Check the A/C
4) R/R radio
5) Install the new trim parts I have acquired over the past year!
6) Finish the power window motor replacement debacle

GMC
1) Rebuild F/R brakes
2) Fix radio wiring issue
3) Fix D/S door window sticking issue
4) Reinstall A/C ducting
5) Get the truck realigned
6) Oil/filter change

Trailer
1) Brake replacement

Teardrop camper
1) Everything!

See? Plenty to do! It's just flippin' DOING IT! I know what I need to do, and that is pick one vehicle and get that one finished (or nearly so) and go to the next one. Most run and drive right now, except for the Imperial (brakes) and the lowered Dodge (timing chain/sprockets).

That was aimed at the statement about guys mini collections.

I have what I call "garage ADD", in that I'll be working on three or four of them at a time.

I too suffer from this.

versus some guys I know that have no room to actually function, whether they have a single-car attached garage or a 40' x 100' warehouse.

I too suffer from this, a single car detached, 20x13. No fun with the car in there but it was getting done.

Same here, moving along nicely until I got the second one, but that will be changing this summer. You just have to find one to love and stick with it.

Patrick your getting bogged down sell the lot and keep the one you really want ,Cover it up and then come back to it after a while ,You will enjoy it better .:toothy4:

Just a thought when it comes to the things we collect. Do we own them or do they own us...?

It's like Will use to say: We don't own them, we are just care takers.

And, IMHO, we should take care for just as many or few we (and them) are happy with...
