Just got a phone call from home - a good friend of mine has Cancer...........gawd, i freaking hate this stuff. 48 yrs old, stage 3 or 4, 1-2 yrs prognosis. They are saying there really are no solid treatment options so my guess is Stage 4. He and I have been friends since Carter was prez.

We need to spend every minute we have doing whatever it is we love to do.

I try hard not to think about it.
Every day it seems I get reminded though.
I look at my wife every morning while we have coffee together and I wonder...
I'm not afraid of dying. I'm afraid of others dying.

I'll second that. After my wife was diagnosed, I told my kids not to pass up an opportunity that came along because the odds were against them for that chance to come back. Hope your friend can make the best of the time he has left.

I want to ask how you are doing?

He will........fortunately for him he has made good of the time he has had up to now..........did some traveling in the 90's and early 2000's. He never married which IMO is a good thing with this. He wanted me to go to Alaska with him back in the late 90's, I balked at the cost. Another difficult lesson learned.

Never again.......I am going to look hard at my part-time job and the need for it, don't want to spend another minute working if I don't have to.

Cancer just sucks. I encourage everyone here to become a vegan immediately & avoid all GMO foods, including wheat, but especially soy.

Jack Lalanne had it figured out a long time ago. Eat WHOLE foods & avoid processed or genetically modified foods.

:soapbox:

My days range from shitty to OK. No good days yet. I am in the process of organizing her memorial service on the 15th. Maybe when that is done there may be some improvement.
Glad you've stuck around here. I'm sure it's real tough but I can only imagine.

Cancer sucks.... It took my brother, my father and just recently, my father inlaw. It shows no mercy.

agreed......cancer increased fourfold from 1967-2007, the only real thing we can blame is our food. Genetics don't change that fast! I will say something else as well - i started running high intensity intervals 3 days/week, HDL has always been between 35 and 40, last week it was 53. All I changed was the running, no dietary at all. Have all but quit the soda in the last 3 weeks as well.

300rag: glad you are still checking in as well, hopefully this car stuff takes your mind away from all this for a little while, at least.

There's exponentially more opportunity for prevention than for cure.

Vegan...

no ,you need a B-12 source so you'll have to go almost vegan with a serving of fish once a week, preferably sardines, they are very high in B-12. Yes, i know they can be nasty.

red meat is also not good for your iron levels, which we all know help to oxidize chol deposits to the arterial walls. Keep the red meat to a min and donate blood, will keep your cardio health longer.

You are correct about needing B12. I take a B12 supplement, a multi, internal cleanse & also omegas from algae. You do NOT need anything from an animal source.

I bet you're a real P.I.T.A when you go the Outback Restaurant.
I'm NOT disagreeing with you, but....

Nope, I just order a dry baked potato & steamed asparagus with no butter.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Mark. I don't know if I could do the vegan thing though.
