I always preferred a bench seat, more seating, you can sleep on a bench and the wife can sit close.
Then I had a few Polaras with buckets and damn if they aren't more comfortable and less restrictive.

If your sleeping on the seat, you probably don't need to worry about the wife sitting close.

I had my first 71 Polara at 16. There were plenty of nights I slept in the car as a misdirected youth.
I was also referring to the nights spent on said seat ( front or back) watching the submarine races.
