NYB Chronometer to oil press gauge conversion.

I picked up one of those chronometers at the junkyard a while ago, and I want to dissasemble it to clean it up. Does the mechanism come out of the housing through the front or the back of the metal case?

Remove face plate (2) from housing by prying back prongs (1) and pulling straight off.
Remove entire guts through front of metal housing.

I may be slow but it gets done.
Eventually...........

Wish I knew how to silkscreen.

Very nice work Stan! Did you remove the oil pressure warning light sending unit and use that port for the gage sending unit?

No, I still have the idiot light. I have two sending units.

Looking at the picture now and I just realized I effef up.
I didn't paint the needle to match.... :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

Was about to mention that, did one installation just a few months ago for one Bimmer and looking around to find one that already has a red needle. I forgot to tint the light bulb to purple to match the rest of the instrument lights, so I'll have to pull it as well.:BangHead:

When you take it out to paint the needle orange and silkscreen the mask, maybe you can re-cut the top to make it horizontal like the other gauges... :hiding:

Can't make a square cut out of a round gauge. I tried.....
And if you think I'm tearing that gee-dee dash apart yet again.....

That would have been the perfect unit. Oh well, when Bob does his, he'll have had all the research done for him.

Got a friend who's very skilled in that and does this as a hobby. Don't know anything about this application but if you get second thoughts I could ask. Shipping should not be a big problem for such small stuff.

Before I installed it, I Googled the crap out of "DIY silk screening" and all the results showed me the same thing;
that it was doable but still too complicated and too big a hassle for me for such a small detail.
So, I lose a couple of points at Pebble Beach....

I figured your knitting skills might carry over. ;)

Still looks cool nonetheless. I have a clock "delete" spot in my dash....just today I was thinking about how cool an OEM looking tach would look in that spot/cut out, although I've already got a decent SUN tach on the column.......hmmmm.
