You truck folks probably marked the occasion somewhre. I am just catching up with it.

100th aniversary of Kenworth (still owned by Paccar?) was April .. last year. Thought thread would be "overrun" with K-Whoppers to mark occasion.:)

I was at a local shop that I use to get wheels polished. They had a 2024 W900 in there adding fenders on the drive axles, a visor/ light package, etc.. They disconnected the batteries and the lights started flashing, how? They looked and looked for another battery. Dealer said it is to protect electronics and just disconnect the positive to weld. New junk is just too complicated.
 
To be honest I would not buy any new truck, but if I had to, it would only be a W900 or a 389 Pete. All the rest of the junk made looks bad, almost a cabover, without being a cool old cabover. They are all just parts trucks to keep old iron rolling.

i aint a "trucker", but I do know about and love Pete 389's (359's and 379's too). Heck, some of you cats even talked me outta buying a 359 3-4 years ago -- yeah, crazy idea but I still want one. maybe in my next life :poke:

I would like to get my old 379 configured something like this

Which I had already started lining stuff up, all put on hold while engine gets rebuilt in current W900, such is life.
 
back about this time in 2018, I "hovered" over these two 359's

Same time frame, there was also this one (i forget the model year). It was relatively inexpensive, wasnt running, but I almost did it anyway -- until a couple cats here asked me if I was "high". :)

Already? But you did buy it used... Being an owner operator sounds like one step forward, three steps back and to the left.
I bought it in 2020, 3 1/2 years ago. It had original 540k now it has 736k. Might have lasted longer if it had been run long distances but then it would be higher miles and everything else worn out also. It really only spun a cam bearing but that makes the head come off. Oil pump is in the pan(I don't know why) so it needs to come off. So might as well pop a set of liners and pistons/rods in and now it will make it to retirement ~4 years. If it breaks again after I'm collecting I can sit at home for not free. Hopefully have my Pete back on the road and send this newer truck to it's next owner. Don't hate it, but I'd like to have a Pete back. More like 1 step forward and 2 back but, I'll go with your description.
 
I've been meaning to post this for a long time now.

I was handed this at one of the places that I picked up a load, probably some steel plant.

Not sure if I should be amused or insulted. Looks like something out of "Highlights" magazine that I used to get as a kid.
