Wall of Debt - Unsustainable California

im done with the hijacking of this thread. :mob:

So the best you really smart guys could come up with was a 2014 study (one that was proved to be obviously wrong)? It even took California some time to bail out of the hole that Bush left the country in when the banks went under (and now Trump will have them back in business again since he will be repealing the 2 safeguards put in place since 2008 under Obama to prevent another meltdown). I will just take the first two articles that came up on a Google search of how the economy of California is doing for 2016. If you don't want to read them, it says we are projected to have a 2.8$ surplus for 2016, thank you and that the future looks robust.

California analyst projects $2.8 billion budget surplus

Attitudes like yours will always keep the U.S. overall on a downward spiral until we can work together without all the stupid hate so many are sprewing. United we stand, divided we fall was what I have learned from my parents and other wise people before them. Think about it.

B.S.! I'll believe it when I see it, in the meantime I still hate that state and hate more everyday. Good Luck

Found on Wiki. Verrrrrry interesting...

On October 17, 2005 three environmental groups filed a motion with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission urging federal officials to require that the dam’s emergency spillway be armored with concrete, rather than remain as an earthen spillway and that it did not meet modern safety standards. "In the event of extreme rain and flooding, fast-rising water would overwhelm the main concrete spillway, then flow down the emergency spillway, and that could cause heavy erosion that would create flooding for communities downstream, but also could cause a failure, known as 'loss of crest control.'" FERC and water agencies responsible for the cost of the upgrades said it was unnecessary and concerns were overblown.[25][26]

In 2006, a senior civil engineer sent a memo to his managers stating “The emergency spillway meets FERC’s engineering guidelines for an emergency spillway,” and that “The guidelines specify that during a rare flood event, it is acceptable for the emergency spillway to sustain significant damage."[27]

Local news tonight talked about that. So straight out of the Federal book on Dam Safety it said given the extremely rare usage of an emergency spillway it was permissable to build to a lower structural standard than for an auxillary spillway.

I had a feeling you would pop in your head.

You must find it as equally amazing as I do that people can dislike and/or hate a state. How do you do that? A state is nothing but land with four borders north, south, east and west. It simply sits there doing nothing as land has for eons. It is inanimate.

A state is the people inhabiting the land who create it and make it what it is. So it seems to me that when one says they dislike and/or hate a state what they really mean and what they are implying is that they dislike and/or hate the people of that state. A state is nothing without it's people and if one feels that way how do they ever reconcile the fact that they are talking about 38 million people? Seems like a lot of others dislike and/or hate these 38 million for some mostly irrational reasons.

So you are right about working together since isolating 38 million people will not move a country forward. It is simply too many people to ignore. Not to mention ignoring the technological advancements, the scientific/research advancements powered by a wealth of top notch universities in every field and agricultural production just to name a few.

You are right about the flooding in the southern half, but your geography is a little off. Oroville is in the center of the Sacramento Valley, and Bakersfield is the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley, with Fresno being in its middle. The joining of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers are the defining point of the two valleys; that happens in Stockton.

You're right. As I was writing it I was thinking is it San Joaquin or is it... brain fart. It is the Sacramento Valley. All in all it is one long valley stretching all the way from the Tehachapis to Redding.

I bet no one on this board runs their own finances like Kalifornia.
And I bet if we were told we needed new tires on our MoPars because they were about to burst we wouldnt say they werent needed.
Has it failed yet? They keep trying to make it fail. The rest of the country keeps propping it up with fedgov trying to fail in the same fashion.

Edit to add...
Since Kalifornia wants to secede why is Gov. Moonbeam crying to fedgov for federal assistance?

That blows my mind too, particularly since the western states are so large and diverse and just lines on a map. In Oregon and Washington, the general political climate is completely different depending on which side of the Cascades you are in. It makes no sense to say you hate Oregon or the political climate in Oregon. It's also interesting that people keep commenting on California's supposed federal dependency when I posted links to two studies that show it is one of the least dependent states.

So if its not so dependent on fedgov Kalifornia can pay for its own disaster assistance.

We could, but we also have to budget for your stupid wall that we are told is a certainty. Nothing that is said on this site changes anything, does it?

No. OUR wall. And that is a fedgov project. And a Constituionally mandated one.
Maybe it wouldnt be needed if Kalifornia didnt give money and sanctuary to illegals.
They could use that money for other constitutional things. Or...heaven forbid....REDUCE TAXES.
