They've destroyed most, if not all, of the old mansions around Lake Minnetonka, the big lake (bays really) just west of Minneapolis. There might be one or two boat houses left on the entire lakeshore.
They probably did, but the people who bought the old houses to make McMansions, usually tore down any structure that was an eyesore, and boathouses went away pretty fast.I though the MN DNR had a lot to do with that. They banned the building of boat houses some time in the 70's. I remember going to my great grandmas cabin on lake vermilion as a kid and seeing the boathouses. But there too, more and more are disappearing.
