Hi Guys,
I have a 1972 Fury 4 door hardtop, and the previous owner gave me a colour ID sheet with the car. See first photo. It appears to be accurate as it refers to finishes for 1972 Plymouth valiant, barracuda, satellite and fury.
My broadcast sheet, in second pic, indicates a UDF colour as HL4, paint style as V01, and body paint as HT8.
There’s a T8 Chestnut poly on the paint chart, which appears correct.
The L4 Sahara beige on color sheet must correlate to HL4, but what is the H for and does anyone know what UDF stands for?
Thanks in advance for the wisdom and knowledge of members.

"UDF" is Upper Door Frame color paint code. For sedan models and wagons as hardtops have no upper door frame.

What is on the data plate?

H on your paint codes means 1972 is the first year for the paint.

A 3 digit paint code from 1969 and newer Broadcast sheet and the first letter is the first year of the paint.

The first letter is vey important, even though most paint store employees don't know what it means.

Example. There is EB5 (1969) and GB5 (1971) Both are B5 blue. The mixing formulas are different, the color is different.

Another example is DY3 (1968) is a mild boring cream color. GY3 (1971) is a high impact paint, a bright yello with a touch of green.
The frost letter os very important as these colors aren't even close to the same color.

As noted Mopar paint codes are first year of use specific. The H code with the T indicates a tan color first used in '72. Paint codes are sometimes also applied to a mid year color change which will usually be the following model year code. The third digit in the paint code is the shade of color, larger numbers are indicative of a darker shade. Each year the paint codes advanced one letter of the alphabet until Mopar stopped using that coding system.

The first B5 blue is EB5 add it started in 1969. It was not a color in 1966. The B is the second digit for blue, not the first digit for year 1966. I know you read about cars and they say B5 blue for 1967 and 1968. Wasn't a color in those years.

Thank You Thank You everyone. So much info on paint, arriving so quickly, from many highly informed folks. Incredible.Sorry about by limited knowledge, but is the data plate the rectangular piece attached with rivets in the engine bay near the bonnet latch/radiator with 4 or 5 rows of alphanumeric codes?
