Needing some help and insight on replacing the parking brake on my project, 62 Newport. I believe the brake is located Behind the transmission...on the drive shaft? Is this easy access and replacement?

Any insight is appreciated.

There is a 7" x 2" Brake Drum back there, indeed....

I have the Emergency Brake Shoes and the emergency brake cable, if you need......

Always best to simply call me --- Craig ---

The '62 chrysler has a park brake drum mounted on the rear of the transmission and there are a set of expanding brake shoes controlled by a cable to lock them. It is a pretty big job to pull the unit apart to replace the shoes if that is what is wrong. There is an adjuster at the bottom of the assembly to move the shoes further out of they are failing to contact the drum. The cables for these units also would brake so check the cable first. Down load the FSM at www.mymopar.com for detailed service instructions, it is located in tools/reference section of the website. Andy Bernbaum at www.oldmoparts.com has the service parts. Exploded view of the parking brake is attached. Click on Mail 0017 not the icon.

I am in need of the Parking Brake pedal, lever and cable assembly model SC-1. Any help is appreciated.

I thought the one on my '62 New Yorker was toast. Turned out to be just out of adjustment. Once I did that the thing worked great!!!

But... I had a pedal! :p
