Phenomena at Acme

The more I think about this the more I realize I might have missed some clues.....usually the car never sits idling for very long time, but on rare occasions when it has, the idle will begin to get slower and begin to "sputter"; it is as if the fuel line to carb is very slowly being squeezed close.

How come all your problems are always the most complex to troubleshoot.
That car hates you. Time for a new one... :poke:

When you're done playing with the fuel system....

Do you have a spare ignition coil?

I would swap the coil and see if your starting problems go away. It takes 2 minutes to swap.

A bad coil at the end of it's life will cause a no start situation "like it's a fuel problem". The engine won't start....let it cool for a few minutes (coil cools down) and then the engine will start. Eventully the coil will quit all together.

Yea Bob I have two spares, thanks for the suggestion, thats something to consider also. I've try that. I was out this morning and did have any issues so, who the hell knows.

That could be the coil...

Swap it out.....fastest 2 minute fix on the list.

It's probably something stupid and simple I am overlooking. Getting hard to find nice early 70's BB fuselage coups that are all busted up to hell and raggedy anymore....think I'll keep this one for a little while longer unless something falls into my lap....again, lol.

ok coil swap made no difference this morning. Another clue however. Coming back I had to nail it to get around a stinky trash truck. As I passed around there was no other traffic so I let it hang out a bit. Not sure where my rpms were at but 80mph came up fast and then for like half a sec the engine almost dies out, twice, almost like the fuel supply was suddenly cut off. I let off the gas and everything goes back to normal. Other than this the 383 has ran great since I installed a new intake manifold and had the heads redone.

I had those symptoms when I had a six pack on a 71 440 Polara....it would starve at 100mph. Different reasons but that blows when you're into it

Not being funny but like was suggested earlier...
Your pump rod?
Not right now. My springs and stuff are in transit. I'm just trying to shoot down simple easy to fix crap I might be missing. If its a pump related issue I'll rectify it while the car is down. That WOULD blow however. The damn pump aint barely four years old. It replaced the O-R-I-G-I-N-A-L pump which still worked but I swapped out to be sure since it was decades old. Shoulda probably left the damn thing in. I been kinda thinking about going electric. Just trying to convince myself I really need that.

And they say the economy is on an upswing, pshaw... If there isn't even a demand for steel from China you know things are bad.
