Phenomena at Acme

Not right now. My springs and stuff are in transit. I'm just trying to shoot down simple easy to fix crap I might be missing. If its a pump related issue I'll rectify it while the car is down. That WOULD blow however. The damn pump aint barely four years old. It replaced the O-R-I-G-I-N-A-L pump which still worked but I swapped out to be sure since it was decades old. Shoulda probably left the damn thing in. I been kinda thinking about going electric. Just trying to convince myself I really need that.

I think they're not saying it's the pump, but the pushrod that drives the pump. If it's the pushrod inside the block, then you could change the pump every week and it would do the same thing.

Yeh, I get it. My springs and stuff should be here today or tomorrow. Guess I'll figure it out after that's all done.

You could literally have the rod out for a quick measure in 20 minutes and if it is in need of replacement you could find/order one and stick your short rod back in until it arrives. If it ends up being fine then you're that much further ahead at figuring out what the issue is.
ok, maybe 25 minutes, I think I might have pulled the alternator too.

Yup. I can get everything out of the way to get at it with my eyes closed by now, lol. I've been scanning the internet on this fuel pump rod situation and apparently lots of negative discussion concerning replacement rods..quality issues...esp. with the MP pieces. I just looked at some Mancini rods.

I did that when I suspected my rod may be a concern. It seems there were replacement rods marketed by Chrysler, (Mopar), that were not properly hardened. I found an original NOS rod, not cheap but about the same as the Mancini rod, which should be OK.

If you have a hard time locating one I never used the NOS one and have it as a spare. Your welcome to it if needed.

I love this thread. So easy to take this message in a totally different direction.

Hey Wil, very kind of you. When I get in there and have a look at it (next couple of days) I PM you if it happens to be the case. Appreciate it.

Anyone know: 1) is it the steel or the hardening? 2) if it's the hardening, any detail about it?

I can do limited hardening on my own, and would consider it myself if I had a sense of how hard it needed to be, or what steel was used.

Don't do it
Yeah I know. KISS. The mech pump doesn't need an electrical signal to operate. It pumps when the engine spins. AND of course there are the fire horror stories out there. Oh BTW:
