Full Circle?

Built 1926, this was Jack Maddox Lincoln. Recall, this was the era of luxury brand "palaces" for urban dealerships .. the showroom, the lot, service and parts, under ONE roof, with

135K sq. ft, Spanish revival style. 2100 S. Figueroa, Los Angeles Been many thing auto and non-auto related in nearly a century and appeared to be on its way BACK to being a dealership.

TADG (the group that leased the property) has a Kia dealership at 1945 S Figueroa St. They don't list a Dodge dealership, only Kia, Nissan, and Mercedes.

A bit different from the usual picture of the dealership, but I thought it interesting and a great picture.

This is actor Slim Summerville taking delivery of his new Lincoln at the Hollywood Maddux Lincoln dealer. I had to look up Slim Summerville.. Slim Summerville - Wikipedia

The car is a 1932 Lincoln KA Sedan which is a shorter wheelbase V8 version of the KB12, which had a V12. Body was by Murray.

I like what "looks like" thin whites, black spokes, with poverty caps.

That guy was asserted to be an actor named Slim Sumerville

ASIDE

wonder IF this was the dealer (its here in this thread somewhere, but not at this "1353" address)?

The 1932 KB12 long wheel base (coupe and roadster) was a looker too.

I love the Lincolns of that era.

I found the address for the Maddox Lincoln on Wilshire Blvd and looking at Google street view, I remembered a post I did with a dealership with a Lexus on a turntable. Sure enough, that was it! Post #15814

think this was what is could have been (tho the "odd" numbers are across the street, so maybe its gone)?

I see typical hints of showroom, bricked-boarded ovoer plate gas, 1920's architecture, etc.? Is not Maddux, coulda been a "dealership" of some kind.

Don't think so, wrong side of the street, for the most part addressing in Los Angeles hasn't changed.
That was a very popular style throughout SoCal at that time.

Since it's Walter P. Chrysler's birthday (April 2, 1875), it seems like a pic with him in it is appropriate.

Here he is, driving the millionth Plymouth off the assembly line.

I suspect that photo was staged when they did these (about 500 total) they did things differently.
Normally the cars come in the building (far end of the picture) and it is a "moving" assembly line, each station does different stuff starting with the first one taking things apart to the final one putting on the graphics, plates, etc. Here we see about 6 all with lights and graphics.

Stumbled across looking at other stuff. Not a dealership .. but still pretty neat.

100 years of Kenworth

2024 - Cant tell if this is a remnant of the Kenworth complex. Lotta words here: maybe "Bright Horizons" building was a piece of it?
