1937 Ford demonstration of mechanical brakes. Ford actually claimed them to be safer than hydraulic brakes with the slogan “the safety of steel from pedal to wheel!”. They started using hydraulic brakes in 1939.
Chrysler used hydraulic brakes, starting with the first Chrysler in 1924. Hydraulic brakes were first used in the 1921 Duesenberg, but Chrysler is often credited with the first practical use.
