I need to do a complete rebuild on a 1960 Poly 318

Need Pistons, Cam, Lifters, Bearing, rings the whole works

What are some good sources out there to get parts. Also a good cam recommendation to gain some performance, will be a 4bll if I can find an intake.

Perhaps www.poly318.com has some information on upgrades and replacement parts choices?

For cam choices, probably something close to the LA340 cam specs, or just a bit shorter on duration, probably something like 210 degrees @ .050" and about .440" lift?

Pistons? Probably what's currently out there, which might be stock 2bbl pistons? Which are already at about 9.0CR, which is in the good range these days.

Probably a AVS2 and a 2.25" dual exhaust system would work well?

Bad thing is, as to intakes, cams, and pistons . . . not a lot of choices, but something is better than nothing. Might check www.rockauto.com in this respect. Mainly to see what might still be out there.

Just some thoughts,

Man it would be cheaper and easier to build a big block LOL

I had no idea Poly stuff was so hard to get, but we want to keep the original motor in it.

Anyone ever hear of these guys:

Plymouth Dodge 318 Poly MASTER Engine Kit 1957 58 59 60 61 pistons no cam moly | eBay

"We, at Falcon Classic, pride ourselves in providing quality parts for vintage American muscle! Falcon Classic has partnered with Packard Industries of New Jersey to reproduce the CORRECT passenger car piston for the 318 poly engine."
I'm not sure WHO they are, but every main brand of engine parts are sitting there! No issues with "from elsewhere" parts, IF the items pictured are for a Poly 318. Which also means that a local machine shop might have access to those brands, too.

Just for verification, you can go into the individual websites of the brands listed to check for availability of their items for the Poly 318.

Cam and pistons are specific to the Poly short block. Everything else is the same as an LA.

You can get over 400 cubes out of a Poly with a 318/340 stroker crank and a custom piston. I've heard that Diamond would allow up to 2 changes to a shelf stocking piston for a small fee.

Gary Pavlovich is the go to guy for everything Poly.

If you read the description it says the picture is generic, not what you are getting. Pistons are from Packard industries as I posted.

Yep we did the 402ci thing with tons of help from the Guru that is Gary Pavlovich.
1965 Sport Fury and it run like a scalded cat!

Just rebuilt a 318 Poly for my 66 Coronet and got a freebee Poly for my 64 D200 truck.

Happy days for the Poly lovers of the UK like me!

So what to do when Poly parts are tough to find.
Follow the Rodney Dangerfield Poly manual...

Buy a cheap 360 and have the crank turned down to 318 specs.
Bore the block to 4.000 and throw the whole kit a caboodle in...

Sounds easy on paper, but I can assure you its not!
Still getting it done many moons on.

I used to have access to machinery at a V8 specialist shop.
That does help for crazy projects.

Oh yes, decent intakes are super rare.
So its a machined Chevy LSX for me with more careful machining...
