New pump looks good. My truck is a 85, last good peterbilt they made was in 1995, I don't know who paccar has running that division but they really took a nose dive after 95 suprisingly KW still maintained a good product in the 900L dispite them being from same parent co.(paccar) Anything from 2008 up I would not touch, horrible mpg and numerous emission equipment problems. Stan hopefully those big fleets will choke on those newer trucks because they do nothing to retain good drivers that they could get more life out of a truck, but they will just look for cheaper drivers.

I just got word last night that my old company finally kicked the last of us union guys out in the fleet and are switching over to non-union labor as of today, Nov. 1.
This will be interesting.
Not really. I know how it ends.

My buddy is in a union shop and faces every few years when the Pa L.C.B. puts the distribution contract up, sadly some day it will probably go over to non-union. The one thing that suprizes me is that the teamsters have no interest in o/o seems to me like a large possible member group, dues, more members, for a o/o benefits like health coverage at a group rate a retirement fund or 401k on a group level, I don't know all the details or legality but there has to be some benefit for both sides. There are groups like this out there but not sure if they are right for the east coast, the ATA is a large company driven joke (similar to our gov't hmmmm), OOIDA is okay but I don't think they have any clout with shippers or receivers. My 2 cents

I see abandoned O/O Semi-tractors every day because there's no work that provides a living.
They're going to pay into the Teamsters, TOO? No way.
And the companies love it.

I guess your right, but the trade unions have been working similar to that for years. I've made a living for years as a o/o only through the stint of being a company driver I have made less. I will continue to make a living as a o/o without them I just think there are benefits to both parties and with more and more companies pushing them out means less and less dollars for them? As for the o/o trucks you see abandon those drivers probably need to be in a swift truck etc.etc.

If you have over 9 months experience, Swift won't hire you.
They want the guys willing to take the most abusive work atmosphere in the world just to get the experience on their resumes.
If you have more than 9 months experience, you already know not to work there.

The Saginaw is a great PS Pump. The only downside is that when it comes time to rebuild it, getting the reservoir on and off yourself will be a challenge. You end up nearly wrecking the can to get it off or on, but it can be done. Then if you want to just order a rebuilt one with the can already on the pump body, chances are these days you end up with the later style with the oblong reservoir rather than the oval neck style, that they say is interchangeable (it is but looks totally wrong on the early Mopars). I am currently trying to find the early style and think I might have a chance going through Oreilleys, as Autozone and NAPA end up giving me the oblong one every time now. I could pay double and get the right reservoir going through specialty Mopar outlets though such as Classic Industries and get the correct reservoir pump.

Well, gonna keep this thread alive a little longer. The pwr steering assist in my car has starting to become intermittent in both directions (right/left). Can't see any leaks, no loose/slipping belt, or low ps fluid...or detect noise from bearings, but it definitely ain't working correctly as it always has (I've got the Chrysler/Federal 1.06 pump as opposed to the saginaw). The pump/bracket removal seems straight forward, but is there a release valve somewhere to drain the ps fluid out of the pump (is the fluid pressurized)? This is gonna make a huge mess isn't it.

It's not preasurized except as the running engine is making the pump turn and then only on the preasure side line. Once the fluid is in the steering head it just flows back into the power steering pump resevoir. Duct tape a small empty small mouth plastic bottle on the return line after you remove it from the resevoir and let it gravity drain down the inner rail while the line hangs down. Piece- ah -cake, Jer
