Proposal for Political Thread

I believe a little honesty is needed in calling these "political" discussions. From what I have seen and experienced on this site, the truth is simply that what you really want are "Trump" forums where all the participants agree with each other and disparage and denigrate anyone else who holds a different candidate more worthy of the Presidency - at least that is what I have experienced. I have been unable to post any different thoughts than those that go along with the preponderance of members in that thread without being mocked and disparaged most of the time and no real discussion possible of my opposing thoughts other than a red X to follow them.

Our nation has a similar issue in terms of a "news station" that supports one candidate in particular as well, but virtually all the other news outlets are called "fake". How does this kind of dialog on any level help our country overall when we are all divided and quarreling among each other and refusing to believe anything but what we want to believe? An national election can't even be held without all kinds of trouble when the results come in.

WE all need to take a long break and regroup, IMO. Our kids and our future depend on it.

As moderator, you still have ultimate control to delete posts by those who do not observe the rules, and to remove members who can not take the hint after being warned. Some items probably can bleed over, for example a discussion on C-Body fuel costs might drift into the area of what happens if fracking were to be banned, this would probably at least double fuel costs. Banning fracking is a political objective but by the same token it is relevant as part of a discussion on fuel costs. Can not always separate the political component from practical considerations.

Dave

You of all people on the site need to take your own advice since you more than anyone else just can't refrain from making too many things political. You wouldn't last a day on this site if your advice were a guide......................

We tried politics on this site for some time now and saw all the hate sprewed forth everywhere - what is any good reason for having it on a car site?

I couldn't agree more.
I have never read that much hate.
It mostly wasn't the exchange of different opinions in a civilized way but name calling and agressive behavior from both sides.

I lost a lot respect for members due to their acting.

So what is it needed for?
The majority here is pro republican and a minority pro democrats.
From the way how it was discussed in the past people won't change their opinions anyway.
So it is worthless in the end.

Carsten

I've been on this forum since almost the beginning and the forum was pretty much anything goes and we policed ourselves. There was a few idiots that was just on the forum to cause chaos (SuperB was one of them that eventually left the forum). Who knows he might be back here now under a different handle.

That was then, this is now! It's a totally different I-net now! Go over to ABO or BBO of you want to play politics talk, what's so hard with that? Joey, Good Luck with this!

There are lots of Trump haters that will come out and only slander the POTUS, YOU for supporting the POTUS, and even your other views about anything if you don't think like them. It's nothing but a **** slinging show in the political section that I think shows who the Libs really are. I'm getting fed up with it, same ****, different day, it gets old after awhile!

It should be in the gold member only section

I don't post much on this forum but was reading most of the America thread, which looked like it had become the most active thread on the forum. I sometimes wondered what it was doing here but found there were quite a few good reads on it, some great political cartoons, and I used to look forward to reading new posts. Too bad the thread sometimes sank pretty low with childish insults.
At the end of the day though, as long as I don't see B and E bodies I am pretty happy.

Thanks for responding. Here are a couple thoughts.
And then we get into civility...
Expecting to control civility in a political forum can be a tall order hence my suggestion for the mods to be hands off and let the members police it. The separate sign in will ward off anyone with delicate sensibilities.
So the site isn't the same and is going to completely fail because I have been deleting political posts?
My 2 strikes and you're out approach would take care of it. Just give everyone fair warning when you start the forum. No fuss no muss.
it would be its own forum that you would have to join to see the posts in it.
I hope you do it but why just in the gold member section?

and who is going to enforce those rules? How about when we ban someone for posting politics and I get the 20 pms telling me about how "indispensable" his technical knowledge is and I should let him back in. Or the emails where the offender 'promises' to be good from now on . Hell, people know that I'm deleting political posts and people are still posting them. Can't follow that rules for even a day, but I'm suppose to expect they'll follow the rules of keeping politics in just one forum?

Even this thread has political opinions being tossed around and I'm kind of in disbelief that we can't even talk about talking about it without the political sides coming out.

It's more work to moderate a political section and it would be tough to not take sides. Perhaps combining all the political sections in the forums under your watch into one "For Politics Only" might work. That's just tossing out an idea though and I don't expect anything to come of it. That might be interesting to see what the ABC etc. body guys think versus the C body old men in hats.

You know Joey, it's your decision what you want to do.

i guess i don't get it. if a new section were to be created and you are tired of politics, don't want to hear about it, blah, blah , blah.
STAY OUT OF IT! ignore it ,forget it exists. why cry about something you don't have to participate in?
i can understand about digs on members in other threads, but to me it would seem easier to police one (for the most part) section instead of trying to interpret and irradicate politics in every post of every thread.
put the america thread back and i'm in. i find it quite bothersome that over four years worth of posts, info, history ,etc, are lost by a simple key stroke.

OH! Good Luck with that!!! I can easil;y name at least 4 Dickfore's on BBO that do nothing but make trouble like I said in post #25.

Why is there a political section on B/A bodies, but not here?
Why should it be any different for here?
From what I've read the America thread was kinda tame in comparison.
Have the sign in for politics thread. That way if you don't like it don't read it? Problem solved!
A political thread would be kinda boring if there were no opposition view points.
Like it or not politics are injected into everything,Movies, sports, covid, and even car forums.
How do politics relate to c bodies only?
I have not read the green new deal, but I'm pretty sure there is no exemptions for Cbody mopars
Classic car ownership and lefty politics are at odds.
Anyway, this is great forum with or without political threads

All I can say is that United We Stand, Divided we Fall....................we had better be able to reject those who divide us and support those who want to work together to make us great again. Otherwise, we all fail in the end. America will never be great again when we are more divided than ever - there is no way around it.

This America thread/topic has proven divisive and therefore it has no place on this site when folks can't talk with each other without being despised and hated - we need to listen to each other and work our differences out. A car site is hardly the place to do it especially when it is dominated by older white men who have pretty much made their minds up a long time ago. Nothing good or useful will come of it.

We would be far better off as a site when we can discuss the objects that we can all agree on are worth remembering and restoring. This has become a great site when others have failed long ago. Joey deserves so much of the credit and that is where we should keep our focus IMO. Let the rest go.......................................would be my advice.

If there are really so many folks that want to discuss politics ad nauseum, then another site should be created where all the folks on any F_BO site can join and have to assume new site names that are not the same as in the F_BO sites so they can start anew and this FCBO site (and all the others) can be completely divorced from that political site - no politics allowed on the car sites. Otherwise the contempt and disrespect that has been so prevalent will spill over onto the FCBO site again (and others) and we will find ourselves in the same mess in short order. Then instead of just tired old bored, angry white men, there could also then be some younger more open minded folks who could join it to make things much more interesting than currently the case.

I just do not understand, however, why Joey would want to take that mess on, but it would be up to him if he wants to entertain it.
