Put Magnum 500 wheels on my '68 Chrysler

View attachment 308074 View attachment 308070 View attachment 308071 Just had Magnum 500 wheels mounted on the '68 300. There have been more than several posts on here questioning what size to use. In '68 you either had 14 X 51/2 inch wheels with drum brakes or 15 X 6 inch wheels with disc brakes. I know some have discussed going taller and wider. I chose 15 X 6 wheels to stay with a size that was offered at the time, and to keep the stance/wheel well set back as would have been from the factory.

I've seen your car "in person" and it's gorgeous! Even better (if possible!) with the Mag 5's on it. It looks like the factory brochure photo! "You done good!" The '68 300s are classy cars and with the mags, for me, it's over-the-top in looks! The yellow shows beautifully! I have the optional road covers on mine and if you want to think about how times have changed, back in 1974 when mom and dad gave me their '68 300, I had a distaste for the standard factory hub caps; I found a set of 4 optional sport road wheels and for $12 I bought them ( I was making $1.95/hour in high school) and my dad, rest his soul, yelled that I paid way too much!! Now, I've seen them for $100 per cover.....times have changed!

Thanks for the great comments on my car. Wish I had met you when you saw the car. I also wish I spent only $12 on the new wheels! It's always a work in progress. I just put 4 new shocks on this week, so now I will install new rubber front wheel well splash shields that I got from Detroit Muscle Technologies. While at Carlisle I ordered a new convertible top boot from Legendary, as mine is starting to split open, still waiting for it. I also purchased new door sill plates and sill extensions, and some back seat courtesy light lenses (mine are warped) and a correct trunk emblem, all from Murray Park at Carlisle.

The '68 was purchased new by mom and dad, June 1968, replaced by a '75 Chrysler in later 1974. I got the '68 by choice and couldn't park it at Rutgers where I commuted to college. So, I bought a 2nd car.....a '62 300 (non-letter) and that was a debacle...dad was right, should have passed on it! Also, too big! Later though, I got bitten badly by the '57 300C bug, pictured here after a three year resto. I've since had a '60 300F which I reluctantly sold in order to do my '64 Imp convert. Both the Imp and the 300C are AACA Senior Grand winners and NCPC winners. They're nice cars but driving here in NJ, well, you know about that....you're driving a diamond for sure. The vanity plates surprised me by their availability but they add a nice touch.

I wish I had met you, I was and remain very impressed by your 300! I dont take the cars too far, especially the 300C as it's a single stage paint and possible paint chips make me crazy. The Imperial is base/clear so it's bit less a liability should something happen. Mostly, the cars are run locally and shown locally. I'm still in the market for another 300F or 300G, I really liked my F and while I sold it for a good number it's something I wished I had kept.....seller beware!
