Putting some finishing touches on a well preserved '68 Fury III

Thank you! Appreciate the compliments, I am very proud of her. I had envisioned owning a regular hardtop, but when I saw this one I couldn't say no. It was so well preserved and the exact color I wanted. I didn't want another project, I wanted something I could drive around and enjoy that wasn't total lunch. Mar 2015 020.jpgJan 2015 027.jpg

Stunning car. Hello from another '68 fast top in Austin (although not as nice as yours)!

That is proof that good things come to those who wait. I looked for my car for 10 years before I found the one I wanted. Here is a picture of what I started withDSC_3080.jpg

I'm guessing you mean the upper rad hose? Yeah I don't know what it is about old Mopars but so many of them I see with this flex upper hose that steals from the original look. I was always adamant about having an OEM set of hoses. You grow up building models you want everything to look how it looks in your head, same thing here. That's also why the whitewalls are out and I haven't switched to mag wheels. Although a nice set of Magnum 500's is very tempting.

Lol. That too.
What I meant was the part about first car, search car, find car type of thing.

I recently got the battery tray problem sorted. The car got this first class paint job, but they left it with a rusty, rotten battery tray. I ordered a new one and had it painted (not a dead on match but close enough for a cruiser), now I just have to get a brace.

Been getting annoyed with the brakes. The pedal, somewhere near the plunger or just outside the firewall, makes this low pitched squeak when I apply the brakes, and as I slow down, the right front cries like a banshee. I would like to convert to front discs and also fortify the suspension a bit. The car is much too powerful to be so sloppy. What is the best way to stiffen these 67-68 C-bodies up?

That's a great looking Fury. I like the little dogdish caps. It has the same look as mine but without the fender skirts. I'm not sure I'm the biggest fan of the skirts to be honest.

Great car! I have a blue "68 Fury III fast-top. I'm glad that someone likes green cars as much as I do.

I love green cars. You just don't see green interiors anymore and it's such an indication of the optimism alive back then. My last Mopar was a 75 Dart and it was green too. I always wanted a green 68 Fury because I had a promo model of one growing up and I held onto it like an heirloom.ModelCars 015.jpgModelCars 016.jpg

Well I finally got the disc brake conversion...in the front only. I had to have a minimum of a 15" wheel diameter for the rotors to fit, so I guess I was FORCED into buying a nice set of chrome Magnum 500's :) The brake work was done by a custom shop but he told me the rotors are 11 inch rotors that fit 80-90 GM full size, the bearings are from 78-80 something Chrysler, and it also got heavy duty shocks to cut down the horrible body roll and bounce this car had.
I was going to do a front sway bar but kept getting the wrong part :/ After getting the shocks changed out I decided it was not as desperately needed, so I held off on that for now.

Beautiful indeed! Not that I'm biased or anything!

I'm hoping to put those exact same wheels and tires (narrow whitewalls) on my Fury someday! Very nice and period right!

In January I finally got my hands on my dream car (which I admit like some kind of weird fetish), a 1968 Plymouth Fury III. It was the right body style and color I wanted, and has a 383 under the hood. New paint and roof, but most of what you see is original. The motor's been blueprinted and put back together properly, but the previous owner went cheap on the a/c compressor and got a reman unit. So now I'm left with a half-spent compressor, but at least it cools somewhat. I'm going to upgrade the entire front suspension with new bushings, sway bar, etc, and same for the rear. It's also going to become full disc brake conversion, but aside from that, I'm leaving it bone stock. I am not so familiar with the slabside C bodies. What are all the buttons in the lower left inset binnacle of the dash, below the dash cluster? Beautiful car, especially if you threw away the rear fender skirts. They make the rear of the car look too heavy. Love that roofline.
