Rare Valiant At Car Show

Yes, "The Chrysler by Chrysler" CH Hardtop is a firm fav with me too, but just too damn rare. Even new they sold very poorly, less than 500 built (Gary will be able to confirm, better at the numbers than I). Went to look at one here in Queensland about a year and a half ago (a family was selling off their family's estate. Their father was a big Chrysler Australia collector). Unfortunately the car was missing it's cowl ID tag, and too many parts which are unique to The C x C Hardtop (not found on the sister Chrysler VH and VJ Hardtops either. These cars are also as rare as hen's teeth. Had a VH Hardtop "General Lee" but it was stolen. Sniff......"Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" - Warren Zevon).

Wanted AUS$5K for it, then AUS$4K. I passed - that tag and the missing parts just too much of a headache. But low and behold there is a lad trying to sell it now on ebay (2nd time he has posted it. Was first offered at AUS$14K. Would have a nice win on it if it had sold at that price lol):

If your DMV is like ours, you're probably better off without the headaches of a missing VIN. I don't think I could do that to somebody else like the guy selling it now, in the past I have eaten my losses and called it a learning experience.

A six cylinder 265cu in. motor putting out 400 horsepower compared to the 440HP at 375 horsepower, it's worthy of taking note for sure. A much better match in a smaller car when you consider the weight of the six compared to an eight and the resulting improvement on handling.

Good to see you in here Wollfen, I have been wondering about you. Do you plan to try Carlisle again this year?

Perhaps the most famous C x C Hardtop on celluloid, Max Max II (The Road Warrior):

First spotted the below photo in a local muscle car mag in early 2009, wreck was still out there in the desert where the movie was filmed (New South Wales). I visited the location just after Christmas 2009 (long, LONG journey to get there), but couldn't find the car. Wishful thinking...:

That's interesting. Even though prices for these have gone through the roof, 10K for a CH that needs complete resto and is missing the compliance plate is a bit optimistic, yet some brave soul has bid on it, good luck to them.

Agreed mate, agreed. I took a lot of pictures when I inspected the car. The VH/VJ/CH Hardtop specific rear seat is missing also. Needs a fair bit of metal work. Did a list of all the missing parts when I had a look at it, gave the list to the seller but knew it would be optimistic as to her finding where her father had stored the bits (note the week before she had sold a large parts pile to a collector. He had a LOT of stuff supposedly, most of it sold by the time I got there). But very nice colour when viewed in the flesh.

Would be so tough with a polished set of 15" slot mags and RWL tyres. And leave the vinyl roof off of course (no choice as the vinyl roof chrome trim not with the car also...).

I've only seen one or two of those cars in good, original condition. And a dozen turned into "hot-rod" abortions. To me, it's the details that make those cars so interesting... which I guess is a reason I don't like butchered US cars either.

If I were ever to ship something over, I might take a Ute or a Regal wagon. They'd make trips to Home Depot more fun than my usual minivan.

Yes, I like the Chrysler Valiant VE ute (think of a '67 - '69 Dart "El Camino/Ranchero") and the Valiant VH - Valiant CM series utes. Rare sites on the roads here these days, certainly in north Queensland.

Hey mate, it's still an Aussie C x C Hardtop, the film makers added a (narrowed?) '66 Pontiac Parisienne bonnet/hood and front grill to the car to customise it. Chopped the loop bumper to fit the grill.

Pretty unique I reckon.

I will be making the effort for sure, fingers crossed, I need to pull my finger out, I have too many cars here, lol
