i just purchased 4 14oz cans of mopar r-12 to recharge my sytem. i was going to replace the drier and the expansion valve .previous owner replaced all the o-rings but i was going to redo it just in case also going to replace all of the guts of the charge/discharge lines and new caps. i have a friend who will vacumn the system down before filling. my question is what brands of the replacement parts listed above have you guys used and where best to buy them.

i was also considering getting a price on having new lines made up as there are several places in pittsburgh that could do it. looking for expert advice from you guys.

thanks

Hard to find anything BUT 4 Season parts....
But they work perfectly well so it's a moot point.

thanks i must have been really tired last night i did not think of them. was thinking it stood for Auto Air Parts or something like that. thought about it today and Advance Auto Parts was the first thing that came to me. one of those senior moments. i did a search at Auto Zone they have what looks like i want just don't like the Advance store near me a bunch of idiots i had the check engine light come on in my 09 Cube and went there and used their scanner they said the code was replace catalytic converter would be like $600. i said ok thanks. took it to dealer turned out to be nothing they reset the computer that was 20,000 miles ago and no problem plus was under warranty.

I always clear the code and then go about my business. 99 times out of a 100, it never comes back.

rockauto or ebay mostly for me. Any AC shop should be able to rebuild your hoses using your original metal fittings. I bought a crimper so I can do my own. The newer "barrier hose" leaks less. You can pull a vacuum yourself. I use the engine manifold to get down to ~16" Hg (which is good enough), then switch to a Mighty-Mite hand pump to get down to almost pure vacuum (a few minutes of pumping), wait for out-gassing and pump more, then fill with refrigerant. I use Duracool instead of R-12. Last time, I used an electric vacuum pump from a VW Jetta (for door locks) I got cheap off ebay.
