Just wondering if these are junk or are they any better than the original ones?

Thank you. I just wasn't sure if these were any better than the stuff that Chrysler put out back in the day.

Buy the conversion kit from Summit Racing and be done with Lean Burn and massive headaches...click on the picture and it'll take you to the website listing.

Different part number for the kit if you have a 440.

They are the same thing as the OEM. They just repair whtever's broken. They don't modify or reprogram them. Best bet - swap in a later model ignition system and plan to tune the timing and carburetor.

Thank you everyone. Looks like the way to go. I have pre-smog TQ. Just need to the C-Body to go with it.

I've been having problems with TQ's for over 40 years...never got one that didn't leak gas or just worked. Always went with a Holley or a Edelbrock.

For your C-Body....an Edelbrock 1406 carb w/electric choke. Bolt it on right out of the box......runs great....Lean Burn and TQ is history.

You can buy an Eddie 1406 from Advance Auto Parts. Order online (15-20%off) and pick up in the store 5 minutes later.

I had two TQuads and they are my favorite carb because of those two... But I do understand people have had trouble

I'd run fuel injection but, cost is a big factor right now. The thing I love about Thermoquads is when you open them up and smaller primaries for throttle response. For an easy to go carburetor the Edelbrock is easy to work especially changing the metering rods and step springs. I had an 1406 on a mild 318. It was a good carburetor but, I also had a TQ Demonsizzler rebuilt for my 79 Lil Red Express and drove that truck cross country without a serious issue.

Update on my e-brock carb, Bob.
Should have done it sooner.
The NYB runs like new since the install. I still can't believe it.

I've had nothing but good experiences with these carbs over the years. I used them on many cars. Can't beat the price and the driveability of these carbs.

I've driven from Maryland to Green Bay and back with the Eddie on the NYB twice now. I've driven 20,000 miles since putting that carb on and only made a minor adjustment once a couple of months ago.

The only problem with Edelbrocks on hot days they can boil fuel. I had an aluminum intake and insulator and still had issues on a small block. One credit I will give the carburetor is during the winter with it being 10 degrees outside it started up no problem with the electric choke.

I've put 4 of them on 4 different cars in the last 10 years and never has a problem with them boiling fuel. Even in 107 degree bumper to bumper traffic in Carlisle.

I did have a problem with a Holley 850 double pumper boiling fuel in my 73 Challenger 340 back during 1973-1976. I had an Eddie high rise intake too. Fixed the problem with a Chevy Corvette heat shield that mounted between Holley carb and the Eddie manifold. Problem solved. I did have a "Kool Can" on it too but I only iced it when I was on the drag strip at Union Grove, Wisconsin.

The Edelbrock 1406 on my D100 boils fuel too when sitting after a drive ... which ticks me off.

I never had a problem with a TQ and I love them. I'm still rockin the TQs on all of my Formals- running great and nothing sounds better at WOT than a TQ!
