Remember when?

I have that same microwave, my Dad bought it new in about 1974.
Probably like a GE microwave I bought about 74 or 75, every 8 or 10 years it would quit when one of the door interlock microswitches would crater. It was an easy fix to pull the steel case shell, replace the $2 switch and be good to go again. About 2005 my wife bought a new stove and decided the giant GE was taking up too much counter space so she bought a fancy new under cabinet microwave. The old GE, all 100 lbs or so went to Goodwill where I suppose it lives on, unless one of the microswitches died. With a better door interlock design, that microwave could very well run forever. The new microwave died after less than 10 years and I now number three.
They sure don't make things like they used to!

Yup, I'm having an issue with the door switch too, the first time that I know of that it has crapped out. It'll be fixed. I agree, that the thing must weigh close to 100 pounds! It's definitely a beast!
