Metalwork done, the California Flash B/MP '75 Duster is now in epoxy primer and finesse bodywork will ensue. Not bad for a car that had no floor, core support, firewall or inner fenders a couple of weeks ago.
Time for an update I guess. A new 572 Hemi (Yes, we're cheating but don't tell anyone!) is being assembled by Steve Atwell, the Dana was just completely refurbished by Moser Engineering, the proper seats have been purchased and new upholstery and door panels were sourced from Legendary Interiors. After a six month process of trying to find the best original Cragar Super Trick wheels possible (and ending up owning three complete sets) we finally have brand new 40 year old wheels; the best front ones are still in the box with new center caps. We found an original Mr. Gasket shifter (the car was sponsored by Mr. Gasket) but it will be mated to a Hurst Super Shifter under the floor). Sheet metal all in place, the car is finally in our brand new shop. Denny just fit the hood scoop last week (it has to be on the stock steel hood for NHRA M/P per the 1975 rulebook) and we are working on the plumbing of the brake and fuel lines. Body shop for paint soon. I'll add some pictures; not necessary in any particular order - you can figure it out (original pic for scoop position comparison). Note: the carbs and intake are pictured on our dummy block and heads & the wheels you see on the front of the car here are not the "good ones".
Set the Dana in today to check clearances. The coil overs are gone and it's now on leaves as originally campaigned. Have to build the ladder bars and wheelie bars to replicate the originals. While it's in, we also need to bend up new brake lines and the fuel line. It's a mental game changer for me to see it looking almost like it could roll. Did anybody find me some nice 14 x 32 Firestone Drag 500's yet (not W's)? I have three sets of slicks however none are exactly the correct ones.
Started to do the preliminary pre-paint layout of contingency stickers on the Butch Leal
B/MP Hemi Duster while awaiting for the rest to arrive from Pro-Stock Pete.
