Hi guys, was wondering if our RV2 compressors incorporate a bypass valve in them once the evaporator reaches 32 degrees, or if the ambient temp switch shuts the compressor off like on the newer vehicles

That's what I was thinking it did, from what the book described... Napa made me a set of new lines, I'm debating on putting seals in my compressor, or just buying a remanufactured one... My air temp will get down to 42 degrees fareinheit on R12,, I'm thinking it should prolly be getting colder .............

42 degrees??? Thank your lucky stars.
Do an R134A conversion you might get as low as 50.

Damn, and I had people on here making fun of me saying their cars were getting down to 37 and 38 degrees... I stuck with R12 cause I have a license to buy it and it will hands down run colder than 134, especially in large tubed condensors, maybe i should just reseal my compressor lol

Yes, reseal and run R12 as long as you are able..it was made for it. I'd still like to have AC in one of my Autotemp cars...one day. It's like a grudge match now.

Believe it or not, my auto temp works 100%.... I can't believe it does either from the horror stories I've heard... R134 won't work real good in our cars without changing the condensor to a newer style... The tubes are large 3/8" diameter and R134 won't condense inside it as well as a newer condensor that has tubes the side of radiator fins.... I agree R12 is hands down better cooling... Any of you guys had experience with four seasons rebuilt compressors ?

I did the conversion to the parallel flow condensor with twin pusher fans. Well worth the time, aggrevation, and expense.

I did an R-134 conversion in my '76 Vette. I use a parallel flow condenser too. It will get down to 46-48deg. F on a 95degF day.

I remember my dad charging the AC on my '68 Fury when I was a kid. He said that system would easily put frost on the metal flaps in the vents.

I had my hoses rebuilt and I'm replacing the receiver/dryer, H-Block, and all the seals and gaskets and charging with R134A. I still have some problems with the heater A/C stuff under the dash but hopefully with have it sorted out next month.

Where did you get your hoses rebuilt? I went back to napa and they ended up not being able to do them.... Trying someone else now... I guess clamping onto the existing steel line is a PITA.... Guy doing it is looking for a new block that attaches to the expansion valve.... I bought a $55 kit off ebay and am just going to reseal my RV2.... Holler if you have any problems, I have a diagnostic book when it comes to auto temp systems...

Benz Hydraulics in New Castle, Delaware. They had them done in less than 9 hours. $220.83 total to do both hoses.
