The problem is you have two different materials that grow and shrink with heat and cold at vastly different rates. The hood gets hot from the engine and the sun, the steel grows faster than the fiberglass and it cracks.

I think that is problem only when you bond fiberglass to steel hood. But if bolt or rivet it to hood, not so big problem.
And some people even use bondo on firewall, inner fenders etc to smooth them out and those work.

I USED ONE FROM A 67 GTX. SMALL SCOOP AND LOOKS GOOD.

Like I said in post 18 ,take off the hood and see if it makes any difference. The temps should be fine with the hood on.
If not you have another problem I would think..

If it's hot with the hood closed, I'd be concerned with the radiator itself, and the fan. I added a scopp and cold air setup I designed on my Newport in my teens. I kept the hood too . But scoops don't help much with cooling the coolant. I would put a light behind the radiator and make sure the fins are clear, make sure you have the right fan and shroud, and if you find they are all in good order, replace the mechanical fan with an electric one that will pull more air at idle.
