Got under my Fury the other day to replace the leaking selector shaft seal, and I could NOT for the life of me get either of the two linkage arms off the actual selector shaft. I could disconnect the linkages themselves, I could remove the pinch bolt, but once the bolt was free I wasn't able to actually pry the arms off the shaft.

I didn't want to pry to hard and risk damaging something so I hooked everything back up and have been driving the car.

Is there a trick or writeup? I searched, I swear...

What I have always done was to soak the arms real good with penetrating oil, remove the bolt and nut, the very carefully spread the arm apart with a screwdriver. You have to open the arm up or it will never come off. Once both arms are off then you can get to the seal.
 
That's kind of what I was thinking. I pried the arms apart with a screwdriver as you described, but I'm wondering if they're not just slightly corroded in place to the shaft. I wasn't able to get enough leverage and called it quits before I did any damage. Do you need to mark the location of the arms for re-installation?

No you do not need to mark the arms. They are designed to go on one way and end up in the proper location when reinstalled. Once you get them off you will see what I am talking about.
 
They should just come off even without removing the bolt and nut. You probably have some corrosion gluing them in place on the shaft, as stated above. Remove them one at a time. If you have a fork-type pry tool that would be ideal - give it a few taps from the side with a hammer to break the rust free and drive the arms up, but without hitting the shaft. In the photo below, these came off using a large screwdriver with a twisting motion, like opening a can of paint. However, there was no corrosion, only grease. When reinstalling the top lever, make sure it is fully seated as shown.

Got around to replacing the seal this weekend with a buddy. Not a terrible job. Seal came out easily, but ended up using a socket instead of the driver that came with the tool to install the new seal. While I was under there I also notice all of the pan bolts were loose and one was only half installed, lol. After snugging the bolts and putting everything back together, it no longer looks like a murder scene on the ground when I pull the Fury away.
