My signals have been fine since I replaced the turn signal switch. Been good for 6 months. Last week I noticed that they had stopped working. My brake lights had stopped also. I fixed the brake lights...loose connector in the left kick panel, but I still havent found the issue with the signals. The flasher clicks ON but not back and forth. It clicks OFF when I turn off the signals. The hazzards work as long as the brake pedal isnt depressed....I think they cancel each other out when you hit the brakes. My bulbs are new, the sockets were cleaned and greased....at the same time I noticed that my trunk light wont turn off...had to remove the bulb. even if I unplug the trunk switch...the light is still on. Could this be related?

I have the FSM and just dont see anything that could cause this.

Easy fix. Replace the flasher with a new good HD one. The 4 ways are a separate flasher and will stop when you apply the brake.
The trunk lite should be a separate circuit so it is a different problem. When you unplug the switch it should go off. You will need to find where the power is coming from. Start at the lite and trace the circuit back.

all flashers are brand new...maybe I can swap it with the E flasher to test if it went bad though. The trunk light seems odd...one wire going to it...one ground coming out...maybe the socket is grounding out completing the circuit.

just swapped the signal and E flasher....the problem traveled with the swap. Its a bad flasher. I really didnt think to swap it out because it was brand new...I probably didnt install the HD version for some reason.

If the trunk socket is grounding out, then Im just going to remove it altogether and replace it with a flat LED strip under the front lip of the trunk...it will light the trunk better and not have the socket issues.

Try the switch just because it is new it doesn’t mean it’s good. Are these HD flashers or standard. If you have some resistance the standard flasher may not work but the HD will. The other thing that could cause a problem with the flashers is a poor ground. Try running and alligator clip on the tail light sockets to a known good ground. Then try the flashers. Fix this first and then worry about the trunk lite.

Good news on the flasher. One down one to go. The trunk lite should get it’s power from the switch. If you disconnect it the lite should be disabled. Check your FSM to verify and go from there.

You might want to disregard the last comment on the power source. I believe the power is thru the socket and grounds in the switch just like your interior lites. If the switch is disconnected and the lite is on it is likely a bad socket. Sorry about that.

trunk is good....somehow I swapped the bulb with one that had a grounded shell and two powers...instead of one pos and neg with no shell ground. just a simple mistake. It probably happened when I was swapping bulbs around trying to get my dome lights to work.

thanks guys. sometimes it just takes talking it through for it to work itself out.

Swisherd: saw that you replaced turn signal switch in your 67 Newport? my turn signal wont stay in the turn right position, i have to hold it in place is that indicative of a broken switch?cam? do i need to replace it? or is it some other malady all together?

It sounds like one of the plastic arms are broken in the switch itself. You will have to look inside the column to see which switch you have. You MAY be able to peer into the column through the chrome lever opening. If you see red plastic it is a Saginaw switch / column. White to off white would be a Chrysler column.

Devinism- thanks for the info, sorry for the delay in responding, been busy and just living with the issue, making more left turns(ha!). I'll look for the Saginaw switch.
