I personally do not like them however do have them on my 69 Sport Fury vert and am not sure if I will keep them or not as I am torn as well. I think some cars do look good with them and others don't. It all comes down to ones personal taste. For your car I vote no !!!
Iron wolf nailed it. Skirts look "right" on some cars and "wrong" on others.
For me, I associate skirts with luxury models like Imperials and New Yorkers (which often had skirts).
I disagree with cm23uoc that only Formal Chryslers must have skirts (because the Formal Plymouth and Dodge were never meant to have skirts). I would broaden the "must have" category to slab Chryslers and Imperials that were both designed for skirts...slab Chryslers and Imperials look terrible without the skirts.
The 65-66 VIPs had skirts and look good with them. If you got correct (not aftemarket) skirts that properly carry the lower body line along the car, I think your car would look great. But it also looks great now.
It depends if you want to engender a sport feel or a cruiser feel to your car.
Yes on the skirt. The car has a body line that runs through the skirt. I personally like the line as I think it breaks up the line too much without the skirt.
If your car came with them from the factory, I'd say yes. If not, no. I think my car would look "naked" without them. Plus, the wheel well opening would look a little strange as it was designed to fit skirts.
You're right in this case, some slabs Need it as well. But I think it would have looked better if they designed them to not require skirts with a fuller rear cutout in the first place. But that's just personal taste.
I vote no if you're looking for a sporty look. Here are 2 pictures of my car. The first one is when I first picked it up from the garage I bought it from. The second is after the new wheels installed and skirts removed. Big difference in my opinion, but it depends on the car. On 65/66 Fury's they look better without them on IMO, but other models look good with them. Matter of taste.
Thanks for all the input....I have a lead on a pair of originals, great shape, $200 to my house, if I were to get them, I'm guessing it is not to hard to retrofit since car did not come with them?
