Sleeveless strut rod bushings

Does anyone here have any experience with strut rod bushings with no sleeves? I am restoring a 1966 300 and the strut rod bushings I got from Mobile Parts didn't come with sleeves. The directions refer to both with or without sleeves, but 3 of the rubbers are very sloppy on the bar and one is snug. The one that is snug has a different part number on it. Do the loose ones tighten up on the bar when you tighten them or do I have 3 rubbers that should have sleeves and 1 that shouldn't?

Hey everyone, So today I tore apart the whole front suspension on my 1969 fury. As expected, everything is toast. I can move the ball joints with my pinky finger, that's how wasted they are. Every bushing is toast. I have a complete kit for rebuilding that I received from Craig at mobile parts...

One thing I'm wondering about with my '67 Monaco's front suspension rebuild is if my caster is off because I used the wrong strut bushings. I've just acquired some tools to perform a caster measurement, I should be able to do that in the next day or two. I put in the thicker bushings from Mobile parts, even though I also had a new set of the "correct" bushings from rock auto. I also acquired the "budget" version of the lower ball joint from MP, those being about $100 each instead of what- $300 for nos moog?

That is interesting. The rubbers from Craig don't look at all like the orginals. So Rock Auto's bushings are the correct thickness? Do they come with sleeves?

No, no sleeves. @MrMoparCHP mentioned Mcmaster Carr as a source for tubing, they might be a little complicated to order from for the average civillian, but home despot might have the right-size:


I haven't verified yet if Craig's bushings are incorrect in terms of putting the lower control arm at the wrong angle. I like them because they are beefier and they do fit.

Maybe they made 2 versions of the bushing. You show #7130 and #7131 in you photo. Does one of them fit tight on the rod with no room for the sleeve? Maybe it's made that way, for use without the sleeve. So all 4 would need to be that type.

Yes, that is correct. They did make 2 versions, it's right in the directions. It appears that what I have won't work.

You said the Rock Auto bushings came with no sleeves. Would the old sleeves fit the Rock Auto bushings?
 
In the photos in the link I gave above to the FCBO thread back in March, I took the pics of both bushings mounted on the strut rod, with my old sleeves (which were still intact) and it was a moderately tight fit for both but not unreasonable so I'd say it was a proper fit.

Craig sold me the K7039 bushings. Moog's website says they fit 57 - 65 Chryslers and 66 Imperial. I don't see a Moog part number for a 66 Chrysler 300. I think I would prefer to have the sleeve, it helps maintain the correct length.

Might it also protect the strut rod?

Looks like Moog had a K7019A the was specified for the 66 Chrysler, but doesn't look like they are available from Moog right now.
